Neo G41V-4 received today. 256 GB SSD installed and upgrade to Windows v1903 in progress.

The good news is you can keep internal memory with a SSD, no need to desactivate it.
64 GB allows to install many apps and we can keep 256 extra storage for data. :)

No fan at all, it's fast and quiet (y)

all went pete tong for me o_O

followed instructions to activate windows OK with no SSD installed, all worked OK
disabled the eMMC within the BIOS menu before inserting the SSD
inserted the SDD as per 1st photo
and then get as per 2nd image when turning G41 on

now just get 2nd image with either
turning on the G41 with eMMC reenabled with the SSD in
and turning on the G41 with eMMC reenabled with the SSD removed

so now G41 doesnt work at all :(

any ideas ??

Try booting with just one eMMC or SSD.
What i done was just use eMMC for OS and SSD for data (i did not disable eMMC in bios)

As @Skynet said for me 64GB is enough for Windows.

I think If you can not boot with either eMMC or SSD try reinstall OS.

Try first put the bios with default settings and try again.

Use usb connections for now with only usb wifi keyboard and mouse or a2 lite for example

Hum i dont know.
I did not disable eMMC in BIOS.
i did not test if SSD was booting but when i was in windows both eMMC and SSD had windows (and the name of the drives were windows) ,
I am using eMMC for windows and ssd for data.

thanks @notrui2 @Villa

I was able to get into the BIOS and reset to defaults
at least now, without the SSD installed, it boots normally to Windows again OK.

will try later ( tomorrow probably) reinstalling the SSD without going into the BIOS and disabling the eMMC

Hi Dave,

Did you set default settings in bios ?
Can you boot on something ?

Here is the last rom : https://files.theminixforum.com/shared/firmwares/G41V-4-Win10_Pro_1903-20191028.zip

PS : can you confirm i have the SSD in the right way round ( as per picture) ? dont think it will go in upside down ?

Any trick on its installation...i found it fiddly with my ham fingers !

It engaged in the slot slightly titled upwards and only laid flat once the retaining screw was repalced...it seemed OK

Dave f11 is a key for boot menu , means you can test if your SSD boots well without going into the bios.

I advice you using eMMC for windows and SSD for data.
Is justing booting os with eMMC and then format the SSD in windows.

Yes, I would be happy with that setup and its what i will try for.

thanks

I tested a few days ago and i noticed this:
Is not good (and we can have problems) having both eMMC and SSD active at the same time with windows installed.
The best thing is:
-Having for example eMMC for windows and ssd for data (formatting first the drive) or
-eMMC with os disable (for backup) and SSD with os active - i have this way for N42C-4

Well, i never noticed this with my old computer (sometimes 2 OS installed on multiple hard drive) but yes it's a good idea to format the SDD to get more space :)

And avoiding possible problems, conflits ☺.
Because in this case there are two equal OS- windows 10 pro english (eMMC and SSD)

Also I have re-enabled the eMMC support and it is displayed as D: drive.

The SSD has Windows Version 1903 and the eMMC had 1809.

Next you have to enter BIOS and setup Boot Option #1 - Windows Boot Manager (PO: NEO-G4-SSD-240GB)
ahh..so thats the missing instructions...nice one ....I should have thought of that !

anyways...i have just reinserted the SSD now the rugby has finished () without disabling anything in the bios and now the SSD is seen as extra storage ( D: drive) so at least I havent broken anything.

whats the general opinion about which is best / fastest

windows on the eMMC and booting from there
or windows on the SSD and booting from the SSD ?

Guys I noticed with this device you can disable the Beep at startup. (y)

Chipset > South Cluster Configuration > BEEP
Yep. I already knew that ☺. I think that option is in j50c-4 but it does not work , in this moment i can not test J50c-4.
