Funny stuff found so far on new U22 - Any suggestions?

Brand new out of the package. Build 20200612-V004. I have a physical USB keyboard and mouse connected. Am on ethernet only so far. Root is enabled. Nova Launcher installed and made default.

1. The keyboard escape key seems to do nothing at all. On any other android device I have used (TV boxes, phones, etc) escape is the same a pressing the back button on the navbar. Other well known keystrokes including Alt+Tab for recents and Alt+Escape for home and CTRL+Escape for menu work fine. This is a real pain. I do note that the Escape key functions normally when I connect via TeamViewer.

2. Before buying this, I specifically contacted Minix and asked about auto-power on without having to press the power button. This is essential to me as we have lots of outages here. John wrote me "Yes, ... have an auto power-on option. ". I am not seeing this work at all. First, I see no option in the options. I have seen and configured the power button setting for shutdown but that seems to have no impact on this. Second, if I shut the box down clean using the power button or just pull the power cord, the system will simply NOT start up until I press the power button. I must be missing something.

3. The Samba settings seem odd in that (a) it will not let me change user id or password - just returns them to the default - tried both my own values and to leave blank, (b) no place to specify the root of the file system to export, (c) I cannot seem to locate any shared Samba despite its being enabled from my Win10 machine. I know the IP and can ping it fine. But I cannot "net view IP" and it certainly does not show up with other devices on the LAN in the Network Locations within Explorer. Also if I try to add the Neo U22 as a server within X-Plore on my phone and specify the IP it cannot connect. So this seems not working at all.

4. In the Screen Saver settings, I cannot seem to find anything to just disable the screen saver. Don't need it, don't want it. I find a setting to never put the device to sleep - thank goodness! I would have expected to see a "never" in the list of "when to start" choices or a switch to simply disable all this. Have not yet tested to see if it tries anything but will.

Obviously, I have a long way to go and not all is "bad" so far. It is great that TeamViewer Host works so well. And the device seems nicely made, not running hot, and very swift compared to my Neo X5 and Ugoos AM1.

So if any comments/tips/suggestions on the above are appreciated. Perhaps more will be added to this over time.

Thanks!

Regards #4 above: I DO seem some sleep and screen saver options in the standard Android settings. Hope these will just work.

Thanks Marty! That is just brilliant. I have no idea what MCU is or stands for. Any ideas what the other settings in there do? I see one for RTC (real time clock?) and wonder if that has to do with the 2032 battery I have seen in photos is inside this unit? One step closer...

Regards #3 above:

"Solved" the difficulty in changing user id and password for Samba - I am using a USB wired keyboard and it seems Enter is not working. So I switched to virtual keyboard and now it works.

Also found the Samba instructions and have that access working as well. Not quite sure how to make the device show up permanently in the Windows 10 Network Places but I have been able to define a LAN server for the U22 in X-Plore and that is a step forward!

If samba is running on your U22 and is powered on it should show up in your Win 10 Network.

But note I think that the samba share sometimes just stops working on the U22 and you need to turn off and then on again. I have reported this to minix.

Thanks. I have always used a Samba server app on my other devices since none had anything built-in. If needed, I suppose I can go back to that. Cheers

I'm also curious what the other settings are. Can anyone explain it? Thanks!

And folks should be careful when enabling the auto start when plugged in. I was not able to connect to my Neo U22 with the burning tool when this was enabled. And turning it OFF is mentioned specifically in the manual burning instructions. So if you are doing this and trash your system with it enabled, you might have difficulty in flashing stock using the burning tool to recover. Just FYI. (You may still be able to flash from SD card or something but I don't know for sure).
