FW006 Wishlist

I spend 350€, for the minix promise at release within 4 upgrades (fw4) for full Android 15, technically it's downgraded to Android TV (11).
And only talk about 14 probably TV for almost a year and nothing is coming. My phone and tablet already on 16.
My brother I haven't seen a Amlogic chip device with Android 16. Android 14 is the current official highest version for this chip set. Most highend phones use Snapdragon as their processor. Which is where you are seeing Android 16. And yes I can agree with you it's a bit frustrating to be waiting a while for Android 14 to be released for this box while other boxes with this same chipset already has Android 14 with Magisk. But let's see what August brings. Looks like we may get a release we all been waiting for.

An
For those who were complaining about the price of U8K-ULTRA, let us tell you this fact:
The cost of producing the U8K-ULTRA now already surpasses the retail price of our previously made stock.
(mainly because the cost of DDR and eMMC are skyrocketing)

Consider yourself lucky to have bought that early, now we can't produce them as they have to be sold at US$4xx,
which we believe nobody would buy.

Operators are also stopping orders for these Android TV boxes because the costs are so high that they can't give them away anymore.

Some brands are using refurbished DDR and eMMC to make their products, but we won't go down that (bad) path.
And yes Ken I do agree with you that anything above the price point it's currently at will just sit on the shelves and not many people will buy for reasons I don't want to mention here. But I do believe with more frequent update releases for this box and future Minix Android boxes will definitely put Minix back in good standings with current and future customers. Definitely will draw in repeat buyers. I'm very much looking forward to Minix resurgence in the Android box field. And I do have a lot of faith in Ken releasing the Android 14 for this box.

The most basic wish I have will be at least better transition of d-pad. Right now some directional movement from d-pad may not register well (e.g transition from keyboard to selection, some apps still require mouse instead of D-pad).

Hi, should I expect an update to Android 14 AOSP (64-bit), or is that a closely guarded secret? The reason I ask is that I’m currently using a Ugoos AM9 with those Android specifications; however, having used Minix devices since the X5 model (I gave u22-xj to Mom), I’d like to return to your community.

Android 14 is now on the way but no ETA yet...

Minix's official website already says: 'Android AOSP 11 (OTA upgradeable to Android 14)'. Hopefully it won't take too long now, and maybe they'll release some beta versions first.

In October or November 2026, it will have been two years since the release of the Minix U8K Ultra, and despite the specifications on the website stating it's upgradeable to Android 14 via OTA, there is still no update available. We remain in the waiting state for this update, as many of us are eager to enjoy Android 14 on this device, and we would appreciate having visibility on a possible release date. Additionally, it would be great to know if the touchscreen functions currently available on Android 11 will work as expected with the new Android 14 version.
Furthermore, some customers purchase the device believing they can upgrade it to Android 14 right away, only to find themselves waiting for two years, which is quite frustrating for them.
with the upcoming summer holidays in August and September, it will certainly delay the release of Android 14 even further."

These would be my wishes for the next version FW006

A modified "All Task Killer " called "Task Killer" where you have the option to exclude apps of your choice from being killed.

Yes, i would like something like this also. It would be good to lock a VPN for example so that it doesn't get killed.

According to the Minix development team, the Android 14 firmware is almost complete and will be available soon. I don't have a definitive release date yet, but the release is very close.

Just a brief update on the development status:

1.) The testing firmware is ready, and we have been using it for weeks
2.) Waiting for Amlogic to deliver a working Dolby audio .ko library file before we can release. What we got is not functioning.
3.) The Android 11 .ko file does not work on Android 14, so we can't port it ourselves.
4.) Dolby and DTS both updated their licensing policies; the Android 14 (Android TV OS) update will get less audio support, but this can be compensated for by Kodi. Apps do not use those codecs.

The forum was down, and we couldn't write anything here for almost 2 weeks.
Please be reasonable when leaving your comments here. Mutual respect.
