Had much changed in the last 18 months?

After having issues with the OS on my U9-H I switched to CoreElec. This has worked great for the last two years or so but I'm really missing browser features.

The issues I had were really laggy performance with the interface, unable to run Kodi, and general freezing, despite reflashing to the latest updates.
I was wondering if much has changed in the way of updates to the original OS and whether it's worth me flashing the latest version, or if I'm going to run into problems again.

Has much changed in the way of updates over the last two years?

TIA

The final official NEO U9-H firmware was 008FW released in 2018:
