Has anyone any experience using a higher capacity micro SD card than the official recommended size in their boxes?

Does anyone know how these newer android 9 boxes handle bigger capacity micro SD cards?
I have a new box on the way and was looking to get a new 128gb micro SD card for it.
I currently have a 128gb card in my old Minix U9-H box at the moment and has been fine for years. But I’ve been looking at the official site for info and it’s saying that they don’t support large capacity cards over 32gb in size, is this true? Has anyone tried any large capacity cards in their boxes? Can’t seem to find any answers about this.

All I saw was “The card limit of 32GB is probably set to imply the usage of approved HC rated cards and not XC cards(64gb and above) due to the Card reader component build standards.”

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Like you, I had a 128 & possibly a 200 GB card in my U9-H at one point but it was so rarely used they ended up in phones/tablets instead & a 64 GB put in their place.

I might have a spare 128/200 kicking around somewhere in one of those proverbially safe places. I'm not making any promises but I'll test if & when I can find one, & get a chance.

512Gb work fine in both my U9's they are sandisks (and they are 92% full, so it seems solid, many USB HD's will seem to work till they get full and the box can not read the last part of the disk

Thanks for the replies. I’m sure they work, but my question is, if the box is saying that the “official“ size cards they support is up to 32gb, will putting a larger card in it like a 128gb card cause damage to the box over time?
Has anyone used larger capacity sd cards in android boxes over the ”official” recommended smaller capacity they state?

Rockets, did you just use your 512gb card in the box permanently and for a long time? Didn’t notice any problems over time?

It's highly improbable you'd cause any damage using a high capacity SD card dude :). Don't worry about that if you have some & that's the reason you haven't tried them. (However, I can understand you preferring verification before purchasing a more expensive micro SD.)

It's more an issue of verifying their actual compatibility. Can't see any reason why the U22 wouldn't be able to read/write to/from a higher capacity card.

I always put a 64GB card in all the devices I have and it stays with the device, never removed for the duration of use!

My experience with Micro SD cards is that once you start moving them about between different devices and operating systems is when they die!

That's precisely what I do too. Amazon have made a killing out of me for 64 GB cards for all of these static devices in recent years lol ;).

I just have a small few of the higher capacity cards kept in phone/tablets/Kindle, & a couple of spare cards all loaded up with Ebooks, audio books & other media in case of hospital admission etc. Otherwise, almost all of the rest are 64's that stay put :).

I just realised we don't know which new device he has?!

He's only been referring to newer or new boxes!

I just retired the U9-H and got a new box.

And here it looks like he changed his mind about the U22-XJ...
I was planning on upgrading to the U22 anyway in a few weeks, but not now if Netflix isn’t going to work properly on it. 5.3.1 was ideal on my older X8 and U9 boxes, and it’s a shame it’s gone now.

I've asked the question here...

Over a year, Both boxes, they are solid. A oversized card will not damage a unit, the worst that will happen is as you fill it you will find that it won't read the end of the card so somethings can't be read, that said, at 92% full on both my 512's that is not a issue. They work fine.
