HDR doesn't work on my U9

I bought a new 4K TV (Samsung Q70R) that supports HDR, but I can't seem to get HDR working on my U9 (running CE FW001 Android 7.1.2).
If I plug my HDD directly into the TV's USB port, I can watch the video files in HDR without any issues. But when I connect the HDD to my U9, it doesn't appear to recognize the signal as HDR, it just plays the videos in SDR.

I checked the U9 display settings, but I think they are correct: 'HDR to SDR' is set to 'Auto' (setting it to 'On' doesn't make a difference) and 'SDR to HDR' is set to 'Off'.
I can't seem to find any settings in Kodi in regards to HDR, unless I'm missing something?

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Or is it better to just connect my HDD directly to the TV's USB and watch my videos this way? (so not use the U9 for local video playback).
Because the TV seems to play the 4K HDR videos just fine and it supports all the video formats I need. What would you recommend?

Thanks for your time!

You should turn off all HDR/SDR/DV settings on the U9

there are no settings in Kodi wrt HDR

or revert back to the better FW008 where everything works fine.

I just tried changing the HDR setting from 'auto' to 'off', but unfortunately it still doesn't work.
Guess i'll go back to FW008 then, if there's nothing else left to try.
Thanks for trying to help!

you may also have to make sure the HDMI input to which you are connecting the minix to on the TV is set correctly for HDR

one last thing , make sure you reboot the minix after applying all changes.

I had HDR working OK on a u9 with CE ROM , but it did take some time/fiddling in getting it set up correctly. This was with an LG OLED HDR TV via an AVR.
In reality the CE ROM is just not good enough for premium media playback. FW008 works just fine though, so it is a firmware issue , not U9 hardware.

I flashed FW008 and HDR seems to be working fine now. Thank you @pusb87 !
One other issue I'm having now is that videos sometimes stutters. For example, it's noticable in a scene when the camera pans from one direction to another. The motion doesn't seem to be 100% fluid. This happens with all (h.265) videos, not just HDR.

Do you know which setting I might have to change to fix this? I've set 'Adjust Display Refresh Rate' to 'Always' (which is the correct setting I think?) but the videos still slightly stutter.

I have mine on "stop/start"

You should also try both minix settings for Level 1 or Level 2 in Playback options to see which works best for you.

In addition to the above, also make sure any post processing settings or effects are OFF on the TV as well, (such as game mode, etc.).

Hi!
I have same problem with my H9-U. How you was changing the HDR setting from 'auto' to 'off' and how flashed FW008?
Thank you in advanced!

I tried everything (as far as I know), but I never got HDR to work on CE FW001.
You can find the HDR settings in 'Droid settings'.
When I flashed FW008, HDR worked fine, without having to change any settings. You can find a tutorial here.
