How Do You Root, Unroot, & Make System Modifications?

Can someone help?

I just got a U9-H. I would like to root it, but I don't know what I am doing. I don't have a PC, just an android phone, so I'd preferably like to use a non PC method.

I'm having a hard time finding anything here about how to root the U9-H.

I came across an article on jayceooi.com called "How to root MINIX NEO U9-H?" It is attributed to someone that's said to be a Minix forum member called tomeeli.

It doesn't say how to unroot. I'm afraid to do something I don't know how to undo.

Thanks

If you don't know what you are doing then don't mess around with stuff like this.

Some people will tell you....... " If you don't know how to Root a device, then you probably don't need to "
Serious damage can occur if you don't have good clear understanding of what to do :)

Maybe I need to apologize. It seems like I led you to believe I'm significantly stupid. I'm hoping this is a place to receive help and advice. I don't completely know what I'm doing, but I have some idea. I probably should have said I'm not 100% sure I know what I'm doing, instead of I don't know what I'm doing.

I've rooted other devices before. It's been a while. They've been Samsung phones locked down by Verizon. Anyway...

I haven't rooted anything in the particular way suggested by tomelli. It seems simple enough. I don't know who 'tomelli' or 'jayceooi' are and if I should trust them. I've scanned 'jayceooi's' files.

SuperSU-v2.78_20160905010000_mod.zip 4.62 MB recovery.img 12.60 MB

They don't seem to be infected, but I want to double check if this is the way I should do it.

I've rarely needed to unroot a device. It's been several years. I just want to make sure I have a plan in place before I "mess around with stuff like this".

From what I understand, the gist of the rooting process is

1 - Copy TWRP and SuperSU to the root level of a micro SD card

2 - Power on holding down recovery button until TWRP logo shows. Allow write access. “Install”.

3 - Install SuperSU reboot

I want to minimize risk before I do this. I haven't done things this specific way before. I want to make sure I have everything I need before I start.

My Questions:

Is what I described above a legitimate way to root the U9-H

Is there a better way?

If I want to unroot do I reinstall the firmware using USB Burning Tool, or should I do something else?

You can try this way :

  1. Download TWRP and SuperSU (Link) Link updated 10/04/21
  2. Copy them to micro SD card (root level without any folder).
  3. Power off your U9-H, insert the micro SD card.
  4. Press and hold the recovery button inside the small hole on the bottom of the U9-H.
  5. Power on it while holding the recovery button. Hold the Recovery button until the TWRP logo shows.
  6. Allow write access in TWRP (it automatically pops up).
  7. Using a mouse (or A3 remote) to select “Install”.
  8. You may have to change storage to external_sd using the “Select Storage” button.
  9. Select SuperSU-v2.78_20160905010000_mod.zip and install.
  10. After installed, just reboot your U9-H.
  11. That’s it.

Tried latest beta 7.1.2 but no way to boot to TWRP. Picture become green for a second and then keeps black. Could somebody give me a hint howto root U9-H on nougat. Thanks in advance.

Hey there "guest" , I'm no stranger to rooting devices either and this is a good forum. Some people are helpful and others not so much... I followed the described process and rooted my U9 while it was still Android 6. I tried the Android TV ROM V7.1.2 also easy to find if you look around the forum. I'm curious to hear if you have made any progress? The version I have ( made by Kondor , much thanks! ) is supposed to be ROOT managed. Per the instructions you are to edit a script file in the "user space" area of the device in a folder named " init.d " which should contain the "02su" file to be edited allowing root acesss. Of course I have had no success as of yet but I very much like the ATV ROM interface. It's a bit faster than the stock one but has its draw backs. Namely the work arounds for certain apps that you can't get through nthe PlayStore but no big deal to be Android 7 and rooted right? That's what I'm trying to get some help with. I've had no success with any version of TWRP or SuperSU as of yet. ( I enjoy reinstalling my OS every couple of days apparently ) They are definitely version specific and usually customized in some way by someone who knows more than we do about coding. ( Coincidentally I'm a CNC programmer for a living, not the same kind of code but my eyes bleed numbers at night nonetheless! ) I'll check back on this thread later or you should look over in the custom ROM's for the U9 of this forum. I own a X8 also and got it from V4 to V5 and kept Root. I'm not giving up until I get it right!

many thanks for proposal, but atv is no option for me. next spare time to fiddle arround with it in february, so i ll stay with mm.
