How to get app to use full screen

How come some apps don't use the full screen on the T.V.? They usually leave a black bar on the bottom of the screen where the navigation buttons etc are? Is there a way to make the app use all of the screen?
 
Some apps don't work fine on a TV (resolution, smartphone specific apps, etc ..)
Do you have an example ?
 
I was using the OGYouTube app before I reset my Minix, I couldn't get OGYouTube to work so I started using the 'Vanced' app. OGYouTube would always be full screen but Vanced(newer app) doesn't use the full screen, it leaves a large black horizontal bar on the bottom of the screen
 
Well, i use the vanced version on my phone, didn't tried it on Minix.
Check the different versions (and android versions needed).

Which MINIX device?

I don't get a black bar when using YouTube Vanced with the U9-H.
