How to install CoreELEC on the U22-XJ

I'm using a Sandisk Ultra, so perhaps this is the issue. A Sandisk Extreme Pro is on it's way, so I will check soon as it arrives. - Very unusual as the Ultra works fine with other 905x3 devices (but not on the 905x)

Hi,

What is the difference between the CE installation on the SD card and the device memory? What is the time of starting the CE from the SD card and from the eMMC memory? Id like a quick start on CE.

Thank You.

Installation on the SD card gives you a dual boot option.
Start times of CE from SD card / emmc is similar
if you want a quick start ( whatever you mean by that ) then just leave CE on/suspended

Just worth noting that UHS is not implemented for SD on the U22-XJ and as such it is limited to 20MB/s.

We have seen 70MB/s+ when UHS is implemented for SD, 100MB/s+ on the internal eMMC, 250MB/s+ via USB (Sandisk Extreme Pro).
Hi, you mentioned 250MB/s via USB, is it when the UHS is implemented or regardless of that the usb port offer such speeds? I have an ssd attached via USB port but the max i get is 20MB/s while with Sandisk SD is also giving 20 however it was unstable with Sandisk but with SSD via usb it is atleast stable (constant) 20MB/s, is this expected behavior until UHS is not implemented? Thanks is advance for help

Anyone has a working add-on solution for IPTV channels on CoreElec? I am talking about MACs so I can play using an IPTV package.

This is a quick how to for installing CoreELEC onto the Minix NEO U22-XJ.

This guide applies to Windows users only, if you need further support then please make a post at the CoreELEC forums as you will receive help much quicker. Booting currently works on the U22-XJ via USB flash drives only.
  1. Goto the CoreELEC Download page here.
  2. Select Stable>New Installation>Minix NEO U22-XJ and press Download Image.
  3. Use Rufus or Etcher or any other similar utility to burn the downloaded image to a USB flash drive.
  4. Open the flash drive and copy the file X:/device_trees/g12b_s922x_minix_u22xj.dtb to X:/dtb.img
  5. Insert the flash drive into your U22-XJ and press the recovery button next to the WiFi antenna with a small paper clip or pin and press the power button, you must keep the reset button held until you see the CoreELEC screen and this is only necessary for the very first time you boot CoreELEC.
This completes the quick how to.

NOTES:
Remote control configuration:
If you plan to use the Minix remote or the A2/A3 remotes then save the following file here on the root of your flash drive as X:/remote.conf.

Ethernet not working:
There is an issue with the 9.2.2 release dtb, use the following one here.

Install to internal eMMC:
If you wish to install CoreELEC to the internal eMMC, then you will need to enable SSH and connect to your device and enter `ceemmc -x`, the default username and password is root/coreelec (WARNING: If you do a dual boot installation on eMMC then do not accept any future OTA or you will lose your CoreELEC install).

Sleep/Wakeup not working:
If you wish to use Sleep/Wakeup functions then you must do BL301 injection, to do this go-to Add-ons>CoreELEC Configuration>Hardware>Inject BL301 Blob and press OK>Continue then select IR Remote Power Code>Minix.

Hello everyone,

I have the U22-XJ. I would like to use Coreelec. The current firmware 006A FW (20210203) is installed. Starting from the USB stick does not work, the screen is black. I have already tested several USB sticks. Why does not it work? Many thanks for your help

Are you doing Step 5 correctly and
Also most find using a SD card is a better option

Try with different SD cards. Not all are born the same. And make sure you create the card correctly

I agree. I had to try with 3 differents USB pendrives before finding one which was working correctly.

The sam problem with the Samsung BAR Plus 32GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive. The Boot Screen is black.

I will return the U22-XJ and continue to use the neo U1. I am an IT specialist and don't know what to do next. I could imagine it had something to do with the resolution...
You could try to set up the U22-XJ in android first and set the resolution manually to a level that your TV will accept, disable DV and set to adaptive HDR. Then reboot the system to make sure the display settings stick.

Once you know they stick then power off and try the Coreelec install again. Dont use a usb drive but a SD card like the one i suggested.

and make sure you put the SD card in the correct way up as it can be confusing as Minix seem to have configured the slot up side down. ( So SD card contacts should be facing up in this case !) and make sure it clicks in.

I am experiencing (again) a weird issue: corelec kodi menu is showing correctly at 1080p/60hz but when I play anything, it forces it to 24Hz (it does switch to HDR/SDR correctly). Anyone knows which setting to change in android to fix this? I tried changing inside corelec auto refresh rate but it made no difference. thanks

CoreElec do not use Android anymore. It's a Linux kernel with a Linux Kodi version.
