How to play and watch movies on external hard drive on Minix NEO T5?

Hi,

I just purchased the Minix NEO T5 to replace my WD player. I am having trouble trying to find my external hard drive to play my movies. Can some one assist? I also have another question Since I am trying to replace my WD player, how do I use the T5 to be seen on my home WiFi and have it log onto my media server?

I am new to using the NEO T5. Do I need to download Kodi onto my smart TV or onto the T5 in order to play my movies from my external drive? How can I get my T5 to be seen on my network to see my VM and stream my movies?

Install Kodi on T5 then launch it.
Use the link @notrui provided to add your sources thru the network.

@A.J. I moved your Kodi post here.
No need to start a different thread as it is related to this thread you started! :)

@A.J.

Install Kodi 18.5 with the link mentioned earlier on your T5

If your HD is attached to your network and all Kodi is installed, go to the file manager

click on add source
click on SMB and find your HD

Sorry A.J. for the lateness of this reply but I only recently discovered this great forum! You have probably already solved your problem, however, others might find this suggestion useful. I had the same issue as you. The T5 would not see my 4TB drive until I plugged it into a POWERED, not a regular USB Hub. You don't need to buy an expensive one if you don't have an old one lying around. I am using a very cheap Radio Scrap:) one and it works flawlessly! As for players, I have been a VLC addict for years, it plays everything you throw at it without a hiccup. It also uses fewer system resources (efficient coding and optimization) for added smoothness on big files, in lower ram boxes like ours.
