I use an AVR which is obviously a slightly different way of doing things but the settings should be the same for your soundbar with Dolby Atmos.

Enter the U9-H's settings --> Sound settings --> Set the following...

DRC Mode --> Line
DTS Drcscale --> SOUND0,
(0%, alter if DTS very quiet).
Digital Sounds --> Auto detection, (should auto set to HDMI passthrough. If it's set to PCM, try manually setting Auto detect or manually set HDMI). Everything should work by HDMI alone & you shouldn't need to connect via additional TOSLINK/Digital coax cables.
Sound Devices --> Input devices - Auto, & Output devices - HDMI.

If you're also using Kodi, depending on your previous hardware & set up you may need to make some adjustments there too.

Enter Kodi's Settings --> Sytem Settings --> Audio. Most importantly, scroll down to the Audio Passthrough settings.

Allow passthrough - Enable. (Then go down the available list, all being well enable the following)....

Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver
Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) capable receiver
DTS capable receiver
TrueHD capable receiver
DTS-HD capable receiver

Otherwise, you may also want to adjust these settings too & you can leave the rest at their defaults...

Number of channels - Set to total number of speakers, (i.e. if 5.1.2 then set 7.1).
Maintain original volume on downmix - Disabled
Stereo upmix - Disabled
Output Config - Best match
Keep audio device alive - 2 mins
Send low volume noise - Enable

Finally, under Kodi's player settings, ensure that the "sync playback to display" option is definitely disabled.

You should be all set :). Enjoy.

The spec sheet for the U9-H doesnt mention support for Dolby Atmos so Im not sure if it does
In addition Im not convinced that Kodi supports dolby atmos either (yet).

In KOdi audio settings bottom left make sure its set to advanced then all the audio formats will show

I have same setup as original poster. Samsung n-950 and have libreelec running on minix. I only get the system setup last night after moving into new house. Atmos wasn't working by default so had to change the following after some trial and error:

Allow passthrough - Enable
TrueHD capable receiver - Enable
DTS-HD capable receiver - Enable

Now it works like a charm!!!

It seems that Kodi and/or the U9-H itself can at least manage to correctly pass the full Atmos audio stream through to supported AVR's or soundbars to do the rest accordingly. However, that's all they need to do for those using external sound hardware :).

The addition of my Atmos/height speakers was relatively recent. Before they were added I had a standard 5.1 set up, obviously my AVR would just default to decoding all Atmos sources as TrueHD instead. Now that I have the 5.1.2 speaker set up my AVR is picking up/decoding the full Atmos stream & proudly displaying Dolby TrueHD - DAtmos on the display.

I can certainly hear the difference too :). Same applies to Kodi on the N42C-4 as well, both devices do just fine with Atmos :). Edit:-. It isn't working properly on the N42C-4 now, I adjusted Windows sound settings to use Dolby Atmos after adding the height speakers & something got messed up, audio isn't coming through the correct channels & it's defaulting down to TrueHD 7.1. (Will have to spend some time trawling Windows help/support for a possible solution for this.)

I only have

Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) capable receiver
DTS capable receiver

My receiver supports true HD and dts HD but I can't find it in kodi (on Android fw008)

How can I fix this?

Prior to my present AVR I was using sound hardware that didn't support TrueHD or DTS:X & the options were missing from Kodi. As soon as I connected the new AVR the previously hidden options became available.

Are you 100% certain your AVR or soundbar supports the missing options? What is your AVR or soundbar? (Are you using older HDMI cables or are they newer "high speed" (18Gbps) cables as well?)

Otherwise, I have no idea, sorry!! You may need to visit the Kodi forums & upload a debug log or get support for your specific AVR/soundbar.

Yes ist works with libereelec
There I have al options and working fine

Using a onkyo avr
I wil check the hdmi but I don't think that's the problem.

I use now output config fixed and speakers 5.1
Then the avr received it like pcm 5.1 audio

Hi,

I can definitively heard the 5.1 and the 7.1 on my Samsung HW N950 soundbar, but not the 7.1.2 or the 7.1.4 is it somethings that I miss?

I have entered the settings as suggested in the beginning of this post.

I have download Impossible Mission, movies from Tom Cruise that should be Dolby Atmos.

Thanks

Régis

Firstly, it looks like Samsung have literally just released new firmware for your soundbar. Try upgrading that, it could help. (You'll see the download link for the V1005.0 firmware dated today, 30/11/2018 :). https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/2018-soundbar-w-dolby-atmos-hw-n950 ).

Do your "acquired" media files have multiple audio streams in addition to TrueHD Atmos? (Have you also downloaded any "official" Atmos test files/trailers?) Depending on other settings with your Kodi, it's possible that another available audio stream is being used by default instead. When you've started playing your Atmos movie in Kodi, click on settings, look for the audio stream & click on it. (Ensure it's playing the TrueHD audio stream & not another alternative such as an AC3/E-AC3 or DTS/DTS-HD audio stream, etc.).

It could also be something simple such as physical placement if everything else is set up & configured correctly. Is the soundbar pushed hard up against a wall for example? (If so, it may just need a little space.). It's my understanding that your seperate wireless rear speakers also contain upward firing speakers. Have you tried repositioning them as well & are they behind you? Is the soundbar in the correct mode too? (Check it isn't set to use any upmixing or downmixing, have it decode the audio stream as it is.) Lastly, stick your ear right on or as close as possible to the height/angle speakers to ensure they are actually producing sound.

I still had to employ a little trial & error with both the physical placement of my height speakers, & specifically calibrating & making adjustments with my AVR for optimal results.

Hi,

Thanks for this precious information, I have double checked my config of the Minix Neo U9-H and the config of Kodi as per your suggestion

I have also upgraded the soundbar as your suggestion also

One last things on the soundbar what setup do I need to choose: Standard, Surround or Smart ?

And at last I have changed a bit the disposition of the rear speakers

My demo file support Dolby Atmos and True HD at 7.1, I did checked it in the audio section while it is playing:
Mission.Impossible.Fallout.2018.Multi.1080p.Blu-ray.x264.Atmos.7.1-DTOne.mkv

Thanks

You're welcome :).

Looking at the capabilities of your soundbar I'd just go with the "standard" setting for Atmos or DTS:X. (All being well it should just decode audio streams exactly as they are without employing any additional effects, etc.) Otherwise, have a play around with the surround or smart settings when listening to AC3/E-AC3/DTS/DTS-HD MA audio streams & see if you gain any additional effect or improvement from them (or not).

Hi,

I have found this file which name all my speakers, even the Atmos one, so now I know that my setup for my Minix Neo U9-H and for Kodi is optimal:

http://s1.demo-world.eu/hd_trailers.php?file=dts_sound_unbound_callout_11.1_lossless-DWEU.mkvTest Atmos Speakers

I play this video in Kodi 18RC1 from Minix Neo U9-H

Thanks

Regis

That test file is DTS-HD MA but at least it helps you determine if all of your front, surround & height speakers are actually operational.

You didn't mention you were using a Kodi release candidate/beta before ;). Obviously, it could still contain bugs & it's possible that some features may not work properly. I'm still using 17.6 on my U9-H for stability/reliability ;).

Hope you get everything dialed in for the best effect :).
