How to watch UKTVPlay on Minix U9-H

I purchased my Minix U9-H with the expectation of being able to watch shows and box sets on demand available in UK on the UKTV PLay service. My attempts to do so result in the error message "Your device isn't compatible with this version" - from UKTV Media Ltd. I have no idea what 'this version' is referring to. I'm running Android 6.0.1 at the 201808 update level.

Is this a user error? If not, is there a work-around?

This suggestion - to install an app.- has sort of solved the problem, so thank you. There are a couple of things I don't understand:

1. Why is the error message I was getting so misleading? There is no way from its wording that I could have understood that is was requiring me to install additional software.
2 Why is there a need to install additional software anyway? I certainly don't need to do so on a desktop computer - there, the usual browser suspects allow me to watch UKTV without any additional code. And those browsers are logically identical whether running under Windows, MAC, Linux or Android. This is especially true for Linux and Android, which have a common ancestor. So I think it's a scam.

Worse, is the realisation that the performance and reliability when running on the app on my Minix U9-H is, in reality, unusable, especially when compared to watching the same thing on my 12 year old home-made desktop or my 13 year old laptop. Both are significantly faster than the app running on the Minix. And the Minix device is itself more than adequate when running apps other than UKTV Play. I am also ignoring the fact that the watching experience is made terminally irritating by a thorough contamination by advertising. There are frequent breaks where I am asked to listen to 2 minutes of corporate lies, aimed at the intelligence of an amoeba, in the middle of a documentary. It's a farce. That's one app that is going to motivate me to quickly understand how to delete apps. My desktop screen might be small, but at least it's 1080p, with smooth motion

1. Why is the error message I was getting so misleading?.
It's not!
The "powers that be" have deemed the app not compatible with the device.

The app has most likely not been tested with every device available and it may be that because the device is not Google certified they don't allow installation through the Play Store.

2 Why is there a need to install additional software anyway?
There is no need to install additional software!

You install the app without using the Play Store. It is known as sideloading.

With respect, I beg to differ:
1. There is no app when I get this error message: I'm using a browser under Android - and that clearly works in ALL situations I have tried, on Android 6, with the single exception of trying to USE UKTV PLay - the browser can access that web-site OK. So, the 'app' (in this case the Chrome browser) IS compatible with the device.

2. There is obviously a need to install additional software, when running on this Minix device:
When using a desktop (under Windows, Mac or Linux) I am able to access and use UKTV Play with nothing more than a conventional web-browser - not even the Chrome browser. If I try the same thing using a browser under Android , on the Minix box, using Chrome, I am unable to use the UKTV Play services - I have to (side)load an additional app. What's not additional here?

What's not additional here?

It's Android. You install apps!

Android browsers are built for mobile devices, they run differently to your PC/Laptop browsers.
If you want to try through an Android browser then you need to select Request desktop site in the browser settings.

I tried it does not work for UKTV Play!

It's the same for other services. You install the relevant app, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, usually from the Google Play Store.
