I been searching the forum but get mixed answer all over

Hello, new to the forum. I’m wondering if it is possible to upgrade my minix x8-h plus to android 6 (marshmallow)? And if so will my minix a2 remote work for it properly?

Also I have the minix Neo u1 which I been told Updates to Android 6 (marshmallow) is it true and where would one find the cfw for it? Also will it work with the minix a2 remote!

it’s a shame minix hasn’t released official update for these boxes to get in to higher firmware. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much. Sorry if this has been asked but I have searched and was having no luck!

No 6 only 5. A2 lite will work

Yes, Look in custom ROM section for U1. A2 lite will work

Thanks I’ll try locate that for the u1. It’s a shame it doesn’t update any higher. Specially since cheaper boxes update more often then these.

Wonder when they will come out with a new device that runs anything higher then 7, can’t see myself getting the u9 as it’s also a older device and eventually will not get any new updates either. That’s the only downside to minix boxes is there lack of updates for firmware. But I appreciate that you have answered my question and helped out!

MINIX media hubs all continue to receive a number of firmware updates after they've been released. The U9-H for example received 7 firmware updates, & the U1, 12 firmware updates. (On what planet is that a lack of firmware updates & how is this a downside?????) You certainly won't see that kind of after market support from the manufacturers of the cheap media hubs that you're considering. (There's really only one other very well known product that comes close to MINIX but that has the Android TV OS anyway.)

I'm assuming what you're trying to convey is that the cheap (generic) media hubs from other manufacturers are released with a more recent version of Android? Yes, this may be the case. However, many of these cheap alternative boxes are very buggy & often unstable, & they may not receive ANY after market updates at all!!! Any problems they have out of the box invariably you're stuck with them forever.

Obviously it's entirely up to you!! Personally, I'd much rather purchase a device with a slightly older OS with the knowledge that the manufacturer will continue to improve it for 18 months to 2 years, vs a device with the most recent OS that's extremely flawed, buggy, unstable & will never receive any fixes.

Media hubs aren't like smartphones ;)!!! They just don't need updating to the latest OS 10 minutes after they're released.

It is better to have for example Android 7 but quick and stable than the same (or even other) device with the latest OS with a lot of bugs and unstable.
The software must be made and improved depending on the hardware that we have.

U9-h right now is the best android media hub you can have, the device is very stable and quick even the latest beta version.

I personally prefer stability than having the latest OS in the market.

Minix have a excelent client support with needed software updates.

While the hardware is capable the software go along to provide the best for the device itself.

Oh don’t get me wrong I love my minix box and always have and recommended them to lots of people as they work flawlessly but some of the apps I use require higher OS then what minix has on there devices. Not saying there isn’t lots that still work with the boxes but eventually the OS will make the boxes limited for certain apps. And I agree I don’t want the latest Android 9 as it does have some bugs and what not that need to be fixed. But android 8 has been working good on most devices at the moment. I’m just saying they should release a device with android 7 capable of getting updated to 8.

I agree I would love a stable version over a buggy one like you stated.. but do enjoy using the newer apps too that require higher OS. Minix use to push a lot of updates I’ll say that but I have noticed it’s getting less updates more often then they use too. I feel like there supper has gone down a bit more then what it was when I first started using them.

Yes some of them do get the updates I’m not saying they don’t update.. it’s just a shame they haven’t been upgraded to newer versions of OS. The boxes are one of the best around and I really do love my minix devices. I would like to purchase another one but want something that is stable as well with some higher OS on it then 6 and not just a beta 7. They should have a box at 7 and be able to receive beta 8 if that’s the case.
Yes there is a lot of crappy boxes out there and some I wouldn’t even look at but I know the x96 max box has received 6 updates since January and if you look at Benchmark ratings it’s been doing not to bad. Also I really like the Nshield they Been standing by there product too but it’s tv os and I’m not a big fan of it. the t95q also isn’t bad but don’t know how much updates it’s been receiving. The beelink gt1 or king has also been doing ok. Even if you look at the a95 max it’s oerfrorming very well. I personally don’t want android 9 right now either as it is buggy and I know android 7 is stable but minix only has betas for it unfortunately.
I would like a device to last me for a while specially with some app I use that require higher OS. Eventually these boxes will not be able to do all the apps i Would like to use.

If minix was to come out with another Amlogic box that’s running perfectly on 7 or 8 id buy it in a heart beat.. I do like there products and always have. And I know they are not a smart phone they are a media hub. But I’m not wanting to debate on it. I was just inquiring and stating what I have noticed lately with minix. And like I said I know there products at last long as some of the ones I have still function like the day I bought them.
Would just be nice to have something using S905X2 4gb ram /32 or 64gb rom sometime.

However your saying the u9 does have a stable beta android 7 working flawlessly which is great news.
