Is Minix Still a Viable Option ?

Been a long time Minix owner/supporter, but now on the verge of investing on a dozen new boxes and the internet is full of negative feedback on the current Minix offerings on their U1 and U9 models for having very limited after sale support and firmware updates for their U1 and U9 boxes. Are Minix boxes still worth the premium price tag when support has waned ?

All the described updates were made by another development team, which, unfortunately, it seems to me, no longer exists. Today, in my opinion, Minix has a very weak software support service. Just look at the firmware updates history after FW008 for Minix Neo U9H from 2018.02.09(?) (the last firmware from old developer team). After that only one firmware was released, which is impossible to use without tears. Year. Not even like that. WHOLE YEAR passed.

We have the same engineer/developer team.
The only personnel change is our Product Director, Ken, left MINIX at the end of 2017.
Amlogic do not provide official support for Android Nougat OS on Amlogic S912-H CPU.
This is the main reason for the delays with NEO U9-H firmware.
It’s difficult to fix certain bugs without the required technical support from the chipset vendor.

The nVidia Shield is no doubt a powerful box with nice hardware and polished software at a higher price tag, but many do not need all that power just to use Kodi. The SkyStream Three is supposely now the best box for the money which has hardware that is equivalent to the U9, the only thing I don't like about it is the lack of an external antenna. The way I see it is many US based companies like SkyStream get their rebadged boxes made in the PRC and then have their own team based in the US develop a more polished firmware. So I can see for small companies that you can be good either in designing/manufacturing the box like Minix or developing firmware like SkyStream and Wetek, but so far none of them is good at both !
