Issues with LAN connectivity SMB/NFS

I have a gigabit router and internet speeds are fine. But trying to stream local stuff from synology NAS locks up every now and then. I've tried Kodi (min smb none, max smb 2) and VLC.

Over SMB in Kodi when I stop the video I get a black screen and Kodi locks up. I configured NFS and it works better but locks up occasionally.

VLC can sometimes see the SMB share and sometimes not. It's just very strange.

I compare this to my PC that is on the same network and cables into the same switch and it just works. My previous s912 edal T95Z android box worked fine.

Loss for what else to check. What version of SMB does this box support?

Hi.
I use a kodi NAS (synology DS418) server with SQL but i tested before with no SQL and it works also great.

I have several devices connected (clients), windows and android devices (T5 included).
Tested SMB and NFS streaming from local NAS (4k included) and it works great.
Now i am using NFS , i notice that it is faster.

You must have some configuration issue.

I use ethernet gigabit (i think you also use this).

Try this:
Restart all devices, router, NAS and T5.

If that does not work do your primary router a factory reset (sometimes it is the best solution)

I also have switches and other routers.

I have always my primary router (provider router) with default settings because in case i need a factory reset i don´t need to change anything.

Install on the T5 the latest stable kodi 18.5.

Another thing you can do is a kodi clean install and try again.

I don´t use VLC , can not comment on that.
I use BS player sometimes (windows) and it works very good.

like @notrui i also dont have any issues streaming from a NAS (WD MYCloud home) over SMB.
In Kodi (18,5) i have default values set for SMB ( ie none and SMBv3 )

can only suggest that you follow Rui's suggestions as the T5 is more than capable.

@jokerchyld
I Remember now other things:

-i don't know if use any VPN app in T5 but if you use disable/uninstall and test again.

-Use only on T5 the apps you really need.

-T5 must work well without the need of local (device itself) network changes.

-use if you can dhcp leases on your router, instead of using on your devices.

-last resort you can try factory reset T5, but try first all the other options and don't forget to do a backup.

Thanks,

no VPN. I only use KODI and native YouTube. I use static IP not DHCP. I dont think the factory reset will change anything. Its something definitely between the devices (I cant reach my Windows 2008 R2 server nor my Synology NAS reliably). So it looks like packets are dropping or its losing the connection. Its just strange because all other devices on this switch work just fine so I was uncertain what component was causing this.

I'll see if I can get some logs and dig up more.

Thanks,

Just letting everyone know this now fixed!

It came down to hard wire/Ethernet port. Once I switched on WiFi and unplugged the Ethernet cable everything worked as expected. Finding NFS shares waaaay faster than SMB

In heaven. Thanks
