It just keeps crashing

I have a brand new NEO and have doubled the memory to 8gb and installed a Kingston SUV500M8240G M2 SSD

I downloaded the Windows install image from the Minix link, run the install, went round the loop of windows updates, ensured I could get the latest drivers installed for everything I could.

Then the problems start, randomly the PC just reboots with IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR _EQUAL to errors.
The last time it was complaining about the lgdkmd64.sys, previously it was a different driver.

I have not installed any other software on the PC to speak of so nothing should be causing these conflicts.

This is the second time I have rebuilt the PC and still the issues persist.

Anyone with any ideas ?

Thanks

Have you increased the mem as well?

Yes, its a random error, can happen 10 mins after boot with nothing happening or after a day while watching TV via Chrome.

The PC also has a habit overnight of totally switching itself off, so much that I have to press the power button to kick it in to life.

Dows it also happen when you install windows without the windows updates. Possible one of the last updates caused it. I remember my daughter told hers since a few days also have an issue with coming out of sleep mode.

Hello.
Maybe one of the updates made that as @KAR said.
Check also this:
https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/compatible-ssd-and-ram-for-neo-n42c-4.18/

Make sure RAM module and ssd are compatible and well mounted.

When it crashes what is the led light color? Blue?

One other thing:
I tested and you are not allowed to have this:
-one original 4GB RAM + one new 8GB RAM
The device does not allow this (different RAM sizes and possible different brands)

If you want for example 16GB RAM you have to insert two equal 8GB RAM Modules.

In your case you have only one option:
Stay with 4GB original RAM or insert just the new 8GB RAM

My understanding is that @MartynK has inserted another 4GB module...
Maybe. (i did not thought about that possibility :))
Yes. I read that and i am not sure if he bought just one module (8GB) or one module of 4GB to duplicate memory.

When i bought mines first i only bought one module of 8GB because i thought the device allowed to have different RAM sizes (8GB + 4GB).
I now have 8GB + 8GB.

We have to wait what @MartynK say :)

Your M.2 Kingston SSD hasn't been tested by MINIX for compatibility with the N42C-4. It hasn't been reported by any other users as being compatible either. ( https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/compatible-ssd-and-ram-for-neo-n42c-4.18/ ).

Which official MINIX Win 10 Pro image did you download/install? (The most recent for the N42C-4 is obviously 1809, is that what you grabbed?.)

If you downloaded the official MINIX 1809 image it would have already been optimised by MINIX to include the latest/best drivers etc. :).

By this, do you mean you've since allowed Windows to self update from 1809 to 1903 for example? (This can cause differing & undesirable system problems as well.)

My understanding is that @MartynK has inserted another 4GB module...

That's the impression I got as well :).

(Another 4GB RAM module has been added although we have absolutely no idea if it's the same brand/specs as the stock module?) The RAM issue has obviously been discussed & ultimately yes, we need to wait for the OP to answer. But, have you doubled the existing RAM with another module identical to the stock module or have you mixed & matched modules Martyn? (As previously advised, if mixed & matched, remove one of the RAM modules & see if the system then stabilises.)

You could also try turning off hibernation & see if that helps with the system powering down overnight too, or check your durations/settings for auto device/system sleep.

Ultimately, you potentially have multiple links in the chain that could cause anything from minor system issues to serious constant hanging/crashing.

The additional info will certainly help to narrow things down ;).

Sorry for such a delay in replying, got busy.

Yes, I added a further 4gb memory.

I have tried all sorts of combinations, even installing Windows server to see if that rebooted, it did.

I should also point out, I have 3 of these N42C-4 PCs, all with the same hardware spec, RAM and M2 SSD, all run OK except this one.

Over the last few days, I have run every diag test I can find on the PC with nothing reporting as an error.

Hi.
I saw that you tested the device with only one module of RAM (4GB) and the result is the same.

Have you tested without the SSD inserted?
Just with eMMC and one or two RAM modules inserted.

Maybe you have a issue with the new SSD

Without knowing what combinations you've tried to troubleshoot etc., all we can do is continue to list possibles that you may not have tried yet!!

If the hardware you've sourced is universally working normally in a number of other N42C-4's, your next best bet is to double check the individual SSD & RAM itself in the problematic device.

Remove the extra RAM module you installed, does the system stabilise & then run normally?

If no, try removing the stock module & run the system with the new module only too. Any change or still the same?

Can you borrow proven SSD & RAM from another working N42C to try in the problematic device? I know it would be a pest to do this, but that option may tell you the most about what's happening in the shortest time period.

Did you also try rolling back to a completely fresh install of the official MINIX 1809 image on the device you're having issues with as well? (Do not let Windows update to 1903 initially!! (You can defer the full feature updates in the Windows update advanced settings for as long as 365 days, but still continue to allow routine critical/recommended updates install.))

Any changes with the fresh 1809 install without allowing a Win feature update?

OK, So I removed the SSD, the extra memory so it is bare bones back to what it was when I took it out of the box.

I have let the Windows install run and set the PC power settings to "Never" power off, it run a few windows updates, but I have pushed nothing through.

Left it for overnight and it still dies, so looking now I suspect that the actual device has a hardware issue.

Given that's the case, I'm wondering if it's a faulty PSU issue then.

The system apparently seems fine as you're able to boot & even run it for extended periods without any issues. It just seems to randomly die. (You haven't got an app that's capable of automatically shutting the system down that you've forgotten about as well have you? ;))

Can you borrow a power supply from one of your other N42C-4 & see how the system behaves with a proven power supply?

Ideally, test it with a completely fresh install of Windows too if you can but understand if you don't have the time to keep messing around with it.

Have you also reviewed the Windows logs too? (Run Windows Computer Management & open the Windows Logs. Any significant errors or warnings present for the applications or system?)

See how it goes with another PSU & keep us posted. If that still defeats us then we'll have to call in the big guns for you lol ;).

It looks like its the power supply, so now need to try and get a new one, where I purchased from are online and only cover first 7 days.
