Hello Again.
I have another problem to solve.
Minix Neo U9-H loading... hang (multiple times when I playing (KODI)) video files (1080p, 2160p) on USB port.
When i click to the video file when playng on top (of KODI), i had the black screen, and video playng without picture/sound)
Need to unplug the power cord after, cause the Android is freeze.

Maybe 1 of 5 attemps KODI working.
Sometimes freeze the picture in the midlle, when watching the video. Its very frustraiting
Restart not solve the problem.
Kodi firm. is 7.1.2.

What i test so far:
Change the USB Port. Clear KODI cache, New install of KODI 18.9 , 19.1. 19.3 and 19.4. (armv7)
KODI its clean version. Without addons. Set: KODI AFR /on/off, set to 1080p KODI UI interface.
Before 5 months resset Android OS, cause i have problem: notification bar was disapear.
After reset, everythig its back to normal, except KODI problem (its apear before reset, but not so often)
The power supply voltage: 5.19 V
KODI 19 on home PC (Windows 10), not have the same problem.
Maybe is related to Amlogic devices and KODI soft, or something else?

Another problem (not big) is the YouTube app, playing somethimes videos to green-ish color.
Maybe is related with old hardware, because my old phone.
Installing app SmartYoutube "solved" the problem.

Sorry for the bad language.
P.S I''m think (last step) for double boot CoreElec to test. But i have to read some before to do that.

I have U9-H with the FW001 CE 7.1.2 and i just recently installed Kodi. I haven't had problems yet but I will try what you did to see what happens and get back to this thread.

I performed a test on my U9-H with a 1080P video from a USB stick over kodi matrix 19.4 on fw0001 CE 7.1.2. From my test the video played exceptionally well and did not experience your black screen issues. From my armchair analysis, I can only assume that you might have an unsupported codec on your video or maybe you had limited ram to play with.
Just thought I might share.

Also, on the coreelec front, from what Ive read the U9-H is supported on their legacy download, not the new matrix 19.4 .

Its not unsoported codec, The movies, i tested, work well on PC (KODI 19.4)
it has .mkv container: 1080p (H.264) DTS. and 2160p (X265 HVEC) DD+.

Read in KODI forum for massive problem "black screen" on nVidia Shield.
It Has network problem with IPv6 setting, setting up to IPv4, solved the problem for 1 user.

Before 20 minutes ago, Android TV BOX has crash on wifi Settings. No apps are loaded.
I configure my router on 5 GHz . Channels: set to Auto, testing.

P.S. waiting for KODIforum to read the .log files of KODI.

Ok, the protocol is another variable then ?

My VPN is set to IPv4 as it is not yet supported on IPv6. However, I find it odd that the protocol is even a consideration since the test is on the internal network with a movie on an USB stick. No wifi needed for that test. Without knowing your setup, I think the problem might be localized on Kodi, Cache, or RAM.

How is your U9-H actually connected to a display? Direct or via an AVR/soundbar etc.?

Otherwise, I very much doubt your issue is due to the network protocol you're using when you're complaining of such issues when playing these multimedia files directly from a locally connected USB HDD -> USB port!

Is the USB HDD in question a mobile device, (therein solely reliant upon drawing sufficient voltage directly from a USB port on the host device)? Or, is it a desktop type HDD with a dedicated PSU?

If it is the former (mobile HDD), have you tried a powered USB hub & connect the USB HDD to your U9-H via the powered USB hub? (And/or, while not exactly ideal, at least try a test with a simple USB splitter cable that could provide some additional power to the USB HDD itself from two of the USB ports on the U9-H instead of just one & see if the extra power to the USB HDD gives you any improvement.)

You've also listed some extensive troubleshooting & attempted remedial action there, but apparently completely overlooked the source device itself as a possible bottleneck every time. Basically, you make no mention at all of attempting to playback any of your media files from any other source than the same USB HDD! (Yes, your USB HDD may receive sufficient voltage to playback your files without issue when used with a Win PC/laptop etc., but these small & light Android media hubs receive significantly less voltage overall than even the average laptop.)

Are you always using the same USB HDD you mention? Or have you actually tried the same files from another source such as a USB stick, micro SD, or even streamed them internally via another device on your LAN if possible? (If you only have a low capacity USB stick so you can only transfer & test 1 file at a time then so be it, at least rule out the USB HDD itself as a possible factor. If you repeatedly overlook the actual source as the bottleneck but continue to change everything else around it except that source, then you can also continue to troubleshoot the rest until you're extremely old & grey but you'd still be no better off at all in the long run ;).)

If it's essentially the same source device that causes issues every time regardless of any other variable you've tried so far, then at least try another source such as a low power USB stick/SD card, or stream your test files via your network.

You're also constantly testing with the same software, Kodi, Kodi, Kodi. (And don't misunderstand, I use Kodi extensively too & it's one of my favoured multimedia platforms as well but you've continued testing with various versions of Kodi apparently while overlooking any other available software you could have done a brief test with. (Just in case, it's possible that the files you're attempting to view aren't supported with Kodi & Android, (regardless of whether the same files work with Kodi & Windows.)

Its not unsoported codec, The movies, i tested, work well on PC (KODI 19.4)

While this isn't (usually) a problem, it's by no means an absolute guarantee of the same files working flawlessly with Android or vice versa.

Primarily, does another source or a power increase to the USB HDD change anything as far as the U9-H itself is concerned at all?

Do the files previously tested from the USB HDD playback successfully from a different source instead or still the same issues regardless?

I'm using Kodi because, it has many option. Using in to my home HT (5.1) channel setup.
Can you recommend free video player (for Android) with tons of options (Not MX player or VLC)?

After few months...
Problem was not the USB thumb drive (tested with few).
Was power supply. Sudenly stop working last month. It's not "make" any voltage.
Replaced with Mean Well GS18E05-P1J (5V, 3A 15W) + Connector Adapter (2.1 to 2.5 mm).
Kodi working again. Youtube green screen issue, its not solved. But I'm using SmartTube app.
Thanks.

So the problems did seem to be in relation to a potential power/voltage issue the whole time ;). (Glad you appear to be sorted now, that's the main thing:).)

Enjoy :).

Same problem after awhule (less than month)
Kodi 20.1 using. The box temp is are very hot (when touch the bottom) after playng UHD HDR .mkv files.
Not so when using youtube app.
Files are up to 30 GB.
Everytime when playning the movie, U9-H is freezing for one time or more. Black screen, buffering also (multiple restart) to playng the movie.
ntfs or exfat filesystem, nothing change.
Maybe, overheating issue. Can i used the desktop CPU thermal paste thermal ( had one from noctua cooler)
Which program for monitoring the cpu temp (in kodi plugin or google store) ,CPU Monitor or..
Recomended temps for this device is..
Any suggestion?
P.S. maybe is time for new box with Windows 10/11 OS (flexible system hardware)
