Thank you. I have already solved it by assigning a fixed IP with the PC MAC address at the router.
But, just for curiosity, I am wondering: Why did it work with the Server name the first time I configured it? Why now it doesn't work with the server name anymore, even after completely deleting all the media sources and creating them again? Is that something that can be fixed?
If you use SMB shared folders: (view attached file)
Enable SMB/CIFS file sharing support (search for this on your windows OS)
I tested all kodi shared folders methods:
1-Using device name (servername) is slower and might not work as it should be
2-Using static ip adress: (on your windows, server)
If using the IP Address method, ensure you reserve a DHCP address (static IP) for your NAS or other hardware. This ensures that your router will always allocate the same IP address to the server. If you choose not to do this, then you may find that the router has allocated a different address to your NAS and Kodi will no longer be able to access the media files.
Last method is: (and if router supports is the
best option)
-enter and assign static leases : (
on your router)
MAC adress ; hostname; ip adress; client lease time expiration
-the rest of the devices (PCs, minix devices, etc) can be with DHCP enable (default network options)
Note:
Of course second method and the last method are the same, but instead of putting the fixed ip on several hardware, put it on just one (in this case the router), if you can do it and if it works well for you it is the best option.
