kodi shutting box down?

thanks but this corelc thing seems to be alot of work for a box that should be working properly and would be afraid of messing up the box. if this persists i may, unfortunately have to return the box. hate to as i love minix

How does the device behave when you play media with Kodi locally from an HDD, USB thumb drive, Micro SD card or a NAS if you have one?

Are local videos playing normally without issues? Is it just these add-ons you've added that you're having issues with or does the device always exhibit the same problems with all local media too?

All you seem to have confirmed so far is that you're having issues with builds/add-ons which can be unreliable at times & ultimately there's no guarantees that they'll work flawlessly.

Have you discussed these issues with the Kodi devs or contacted the dev(s) who authored the add-on you're experiencing a problem with?

That's not what I've asked you at all mate ;)!!!

In summary, I'm asking you how the U22 behaves with a completely clean install of Kodi playing back your locally stored media? (Ultimately, however, please read what I asked you again.)

Kodi has also undergone significant changes during the past 3 years. Whilst we generally expect Kodi itself or any add-ons we add subjectively to auto update too (if enabled), sometimes those updates can become corrupted or old code isn't properly cleaned which can lead to all sorts of problems, the results of which can differ from one device to another. (I realise your build has been working fine on your U9-H for 3 years as you've previously mentioned, but if your build does contain any corrupted files or code it can cause a whole array of problems if you transfer the same build to another different device such as the app not responding, instability, crashing or hanging the system.)

When you stream from an add-on etc., you're also relying on the source of the media you're attempting to view, (not to mention the stability & reliability of the add-on itself that you're).

Other factors also obviously apply. Is it a legal add-on & therefore a legal, & reliable source you're attempting to stream from? Or, is it a legally dubious add-on & associated source? (Please bear in mind that illegal add-ons may not be discussed on the forum, I'm simply asking for the sake of an example!!)

Have you also tried another app such as MX Player or VLC, as a couple of examples? Do they playback your locally stored media well or does the device exhibit the same issues with them during playback as well!

What you ultimately need to determine is if your U22 & a clean Kodi is functioning normally at a basic level. If everything works well locally but your problems begin the moment you start to stream from a specific add-on, obviously that could give you some clues to start troubleshooting further or considering a different add-on & see if it behaves the same or differently.

@JLKS

It is a very good point asked by @ArcticWolf.
I remembered that but i forgot to ask (however i wrote, don't use untrusted add-ons...)

Another question?
It is just kodi that crashes ?
Did you try youtube ?

Testing the device locally is your best option: (for now without using your LAN)
Use a Pendrive with a few movies/tv shows using VLC, kodi (media player).

I used before a long time ago kodi addons and :
The system crashed, the device getting slower (data saved to the device), slow/none acess to videos (depends of the availability of the remote server).

With all that said i never experienced your problem.

CoreELEC is really simple, if you try it and still have the same issue on CoreELEC then we can eliminate Android being the problem and assume it is a dodgy U22 you have received. You will not be messing up the box in any way so don't be afraid.

I have created this pdf tutorial with pictures which is really simple to follow, please try and report back:
https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/tutorial-coreelec-on-the-u22.3368/

Ok i did as you instructed with no issues. got to the CoreELEC screen and waited....then it went to the ........No Signal HDMI2 (1) check the cable connection and settings of the source device (2) Press SOURCE button below to select a connected source. same screen that it always goes to when i have this issue (see attached pic) All i can now do is pull the power cord to get the box to work again. I think i have a faulty box and need to send it back. DO i return it to amazon or to minix itself?

I have a feeling you pulled the plug before CoreELEC had finished installing, don't blame you if your TV is saying no signal though, I would have done the same.

nope didnt pull the plug till at least 5 min or more after i got that screen. i sat here and waited just to see if it would kick in, tried changing sources etc and nothing. and then after all that i pulled the plug, plugged back in let it go through the setup and got all the failures

I think you've suffered enough frustration through all of this, returning it is the only option now, its a pity you've had a bad experience due to a lemon because it really is a nice piece of kit.
