Language Settings Issue with the U9-H

Hi,
I am on the U9-H FW008 20180209 build. Couple of issues here:
1.The serial number funnily enough is 0123456789abcdef. Dunno if it's a fluke or someone's been trying to be funny. Do I need to change this?

2. Lately My Minix changes my default language options from English to one of the Asian Languages ones(dunno whether its Japanese/Chinese...apologies for my ignorance). I have to change this manually everytime before proceeding with anything.
3. There hasn't been any 'Update your Minix' prompt so far. I bought this around 2 years ago.
Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.
Many Thanx,
SR

Hi & welcome :).

1. I have access to 3 x U9-H that all have the generic 0123456789 serial numbers. It's never affected their function, performance, settings, or the availability of apps. There is a guide to correct the serial number but I've never got it to work & as it hasn't ever affected the devices directly. I've never bothered pursuing it further. (If it was going to be an issue, it would have been one long before now over a 2 year period ;).)

2. RE:. Switching language. Check under HDMI CEC settings for the "auto change language" setting. (I can't recall if this setting is on or off by default but check it, and try setting it to off (if applicable). If it's already off, try on instead.) I can't find the post now (or it may have even been on the old forum), but I can recall another member having similar issues & it turned out to be this HDMI CEC auto language setting in their case.

Failing that, have you checked through the language & input settings on the device for any selected/installed secondary languages?

Failing that, it's possible over a period of 2 years something has become corrupted or it's even possible an accidental/incorrect keypress combination in the past is sometimes forcing your device into Japanese IME. (Never had a need to alter any of my devices in this regard if that is the case. Unless someone else has, or remembers seeing it before you may be stuck there.) Fingers crossed the above helps before we start discussing the extreme option ;)!!!

Is it just randomly switching or is it happening upon specific events?

3. Already covered :).

Let us know if you're still stuck with the languages or if that solves your problem :).

@ArcticWolf - the serial number can cause issues with apps that make use of it. Team viewer is one I can think of off the top of my head. Just an FYI. :)

I used TeamViewer with one of them in the past when I had multiple HDD's connected, worked fine at the time :)!! (Is it subject to a TeamViewer version or the U9-H specifically being the client or host?)

BTW mate :).

While we're on this subject, mind helping with this issue & hopefully the OP as well please :)?... Presumably you had a U9-H that had the 0123456789abcdef serial number & you successfully corrected yours :)???

(I've repeatedly tried following the posted guide (here) in the past but I just can't get it to work for some reason. (Obviously, I'm using the exact same PC, USB ports, & MINIX OTG cables I've used countless times to successfully flash the devices but I can't get this serial key fix to work lol!!))

Any advice or pointers please :)? It'd be very much appreciated :).
