NEO Z83-4: Manually install the driver

MINIX - Martin

Staff member
1. Go to 'Device Manager' by right-click 'This PC' icon on the desktop, and choose 'Manage' option. (See attach picture step1.png)

2. Right-click the driver with a yellow icon, and click 'update driver' option. yellow icon.jpg (See step1.png)

3. In the prompted window (step2.png), click 'Browse my computer for driver software'.

4. Click 'Browse' to load the driver. Just pick the folder where the driver is located. (See step3.png)
If any user does not know which driver folder to load, just pick the folder that holds all the drivers, so that you won't pick the wrong one.

Please note, the "802.11 ac WDI SDIO" device is the Wi-Fi device, and when finished manually installing the Wi-Fi driver, you'll have to move 4345r6nvram.txt to the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers\, and restart the box to make the driver take effect.

Bluetooth driver and Wi-Fi driver are both in the "Z83-4 WiFi driver" folder.

The drivers are available from the link below:

Who can explain in details how to install the sd card driver? Windows gives the message that a better driver is already installed. ?

Since it says the device has installed the SD card driver, why bothering installing the SD card driver again?
The device does not recognize the SD card?

Windows uses the wrong Driver. But i cannot delete the wrong one, because Windows 10 home says: a better Driver is already installed… :(

edit: it seems as if the 1809 update is the reason for the sd Card Problem.....

now i replaced the sdbus.sys and the dumpsd.sys @Windows/system32/Drivers but the sd card still doesnt work. :(
Maybe i have to replace the sdstor.sys with an older Version? it seems to be very dangerous, because when i changed the Name of the sdstor.sys into sdstor.bak, a Bluescreen Comes and only a complete restore brings the System back...

i give up for now.....
i tried everything that is here describet: https://forum.chuwi.com/thread-5922-1-1.html

no Chance to get the sd Slot working.... :(

EDIT: Got a solution! Use the sdstor.sys Driver from here: https://forum.chuwi.com/thread-6634-1-1.html
In combination with the sdbus.sys and the dumpsd.sys from the 1809 update, everything works fine now!
Sir

I have just re-installed windows 10 1809 and the SD card has the wrong drivers. I cant just update as windows says it has the latest drivers is there a way to delete the current drivers and install the SD reader drivers from the drivers link you attached.

Windows says it has the latest but they are the incorrect drivers.

Please advise how to change drivers if windows feels it has the best drivers

can I just delete the SD card from device manager and manually put the file { sdbus.sys } in the system 32 drivers folder along with the ones from the 1809 update ??

Thank You

John

I have the same issue as you had did you find a way to install the correct drivers ?

Please clue me in thank you

Do you mean the SD card reader isn't working on your NEO Z83-4?
Correct it will not write large files. I reinstalled windows 1809 and the SD card reader doesnt work. Windows assigned a driver to it and it is the incorrect driver for the SD card. I cannot just update the driver coz windows says "latest Driver already installed" I downloaded the SD card reader driver from the links on the forum but I cannot get it to install again because Windows says Latest Driver allready installed. I deleted the device and then when I scan for hardware changes the driver is already installed. I need to remove the drivers currently installed and assign windows to locate the driver from a folder I specify. any ideas ?

Thank You
John

When you open File Explorer, can you see the SD disk?

Correct it will not write large files.
You're saying it will not write large files, so is it fair to say that it can only write small files?
Please note, FAT32 format for SD card does not support a file larger than 2GB.
If you'd like to write a file more than 2GB, you need to format the SD card to NTFS.

Could someone please identify the correct device in Device Manager that corresponds to the SD CArd Reader driver that needs updated? I have tried everyone that looks like it may be the SD Card Reader and none will recognize that the driver downloaded at the link below is a match, so it maintains the one Microsoft overwrote to break the SD Card Reader. Screen shot of Device Manager with all trees collapsed attached. Thanks in advance.

1. Go to 'Device Manager' by right-click 'This PC' icon on the desktop, and choose 'Manage' option. (See attach picture step1.png)

2. Right-click the driver with a yellow icon, and click 'update driver' option. View attachment 18 (See step1.png)

3. In the prompted window (step2.png), click 'Browse my computer for driver software'.

4. Click 'Browse' to load the driver. Just pick the folder where the driver is located. (See step3.png)

I would say SD host adapters.

Is it possible to uninstall any drivers first?

hi guys, same problem here i tried all the driver listed here but the controller still not working. Did you solve then this problem?

I finally did get mine working. Turns out reformatting in Windows as NTFS made a difference for me. It had been formatted as FAT32 using MacOS. Now working fine. Of course that will not help if your issue is a driver issue.

I fixed the issue in a similar manner to what hahnweiler suggested, though there are some necessary added steps.

1) I replaced the dumpsd.sys and sdbus.sys contained in the Windows/system32/Drivers directory, with the copies contained here:
https://files.theminixforum.com/shared/drivers/Z83-4-Driver-Fix_SD_card_cannot_be_seen.zip

2) I replaced the sdstor.sys file contained in that same directory, with the copies contained in the attachment found here:
https://forum.chuwi.com/thread-6634-1-1.html (The attachment in the first post, "SD drivers by nandinhus.zip")
(Note, there are TWO copies of that file within the ZIP. I used the copy found in the "SD_CLASS_STORAGE" sub-directory. )

3) I made all three files read-only (we'll see how well that goes) and restarted. Problem solved.

The tricky part was getting around the TrustedInstaller protection that prevented me from renaming, replacing or deleting the files contained in the Drivers directory. I had to change the advanced security settings of each of the three files, first changing "ownership" of the file from TrustedInstaller to "Administrators", then editing the permission rights deleting TrustedInstaller and giving full access rights to Users. (There's probably better guides online as to how to remove TrustedInstaller protection, but it's not that difficult. In any case, always copy backups of files before messing with these things.)

Anyways, once I changed those settings for all three of those files in the Drivers directory, I was able to rename/move/delete them, and replace them with the "new" system files (from steps 1 and 2.)

Note --- I tried installing these same files by running the INFs included, and by browsing/updating the drivers manually via Device Manager, and neither method worked, among many other attempts. This is the only success I've had. Cheers to MINIX and hahnweiler.

THIS!!! YES! I'm retired IT so Windows 10 Home is frustrating in many aspects. Your instructions here were crucial. Thank you!

I'm also getting the bluetooth issue it will work for a while then when a device disconnects I get Status_Device_Power_Failure .

I've tried uninstalling the drivers and pointing to the folder containing wifi drivers (as well as the root folder of all the drivers) and it still wont detect the new drivers and wants to install the microsoft drivers.

Is there some way to force the correct driver to install?
