Mark Watched Videos

wow..thats a weird problem then......no idea why it should happen ..... i've always side loaded kodi from the kodi.tv download pages but shouldnt think its different from the playstore version apart from perhaps looking for updates as i dont use a google account on the minix....also I use the Aura skin ( a great skin btw )

maybe you could try a kodi fork such as WBMC and see if that exhibits the same issue ( maybe even try a kodi backup from your existing kodi setup on it)
I don't remember how or when this happened exactly but I think my U1 and Kodi is fine and mark as watched is functioning. I will have to check!
My U9-H and Kodi has the not getting marked issue.

no problems on either u1 or u9 for me, both running kodi 17.6 and aura skin
i tend to play movies from a widget which shows my "Unwatched Movies" ...they dissapear from the widget in a couple of seconds after being watched.

on your u9 can you just try deleting the MyVideso107.db file and rebooting kodi 17.6 to see if this fixes the issue...guess you have nothing to lose by trying

Sorry to butt in, but what widget is that? I like the idea of things disappearing when watched? Is this in Kodi?

its a widget available in the aura skin ( maybe in others to) using kodi 17.6
i have two widgets set .... one for unwatched movies by descending date added ( so latest movie added first) and one for uwatched movies by title in ascending order (alphabetical)

I have tried looking for options under skin. But not working. Since not much settings were done by me previously I think there Iis some option I must be missing out.

so not much then .. its not a skin setting

None of the above is helping me out
suggest you investigate all the other suggestions then before coming back saying your not getting any help

watched status information is stored in the MyVideosxx.db file...this may have been corrupted..all i can think off ( where xx is a number dependant on kodi version)

@Parambir

which minix device are you using...if U1 or U9 then suggest you unistall xbmc and install Kodi 17.6

you could also try deleting in your current version MyVideosxx.db through Kodi's file manager ...you will find the file by navigating to
Profile Directory > Database . Highlight MyVideosxx.db and use your mouse to get the Context Menu popup and delete the file.

Then reboot your xmbc and a new MyVideosxx.db will be created.
That didn't help. Did a fresh install of xbmc too. Nothing.

Hello

I have been using Minix Neo U1 for 4 yrs now. It has stock XBMC loaded which I have been updating regularly. Initially I noticed that once I have watched a video, it used to get tickmarked to indicate "seen". However offlate there are no tick marks and even if I update database or refresh they don't appear.

Is there any way I can get them back. It is awfully painful when one is watching series after a break... I forget which one was seen last....

Thanks

Latest kodi stable release is 19.0.

Synchronization instructions:
1-install trakt add-on for kodi.
2-login trakt
3-scrobble and sync your content/videos (movies/tv shows) with trakt.
4-trakt will save your videos state (etc), so next time you need to install (from scratch) kodi is just use trakt add-on again (steps 1 to 3)

Note:
I am using kodi sql server and kodi trakt add-on and it works very well ?.
You can install kodi trakt add-on even if you dont have one kodi sql server (and it works well)

Other note:
You can check and modify your content from trakt website:
https://trakt.tv/

XBMC / Kodi database automatically stores watched status or resume points itself locally without the need for creating additional accounts or installing extra add-ons.

If you've been continually updating the original installation of XBMC to the current Kodi 19 over a 4 year span then there's a fair chance something has become corrupted over that time.

If you've already tried clearing your cache etc. & these problems persist then consider either clearing Kodi s data or uninstall/reinstall Kodi 19. (Obviously, you will lose all previous watched states & you'll need to completely reconfigure Kodi, & re-scrape your library again but a fresh start should return everything to normal.)

Once done, take periodic backups of Kodi using the backup add-on as it could save you a lot of time & grief if something like this happens again.

Yes kodi automaticaly stores watched status and resumes states.
The problem is when you need to install kodi from scratch and re-scan the database library for new content.
Backup is needed/important but i prefer using trakt add-on (which is also a kind of backup...) , and sql database backups, i don't use kodi backup add-on (and i don't like it - example using backup add-on for kodi v19 may not work well with kodi v20..., i already tested kodi backup add-on with some previous kodi versions...).
We have different approaches ?.

Note:
If you use kodi backup add-on you also need to install and setup it (the same as trakt ?).
I don't need to create a new trakt account, i can sign in with google account ? (and others... )

Both methods have pros and cons:
One advantage of using trakt (but have more ?) is that, once you have everything configured you don't have to do anything more. (The process becomes automaticaly ?)

Thank you for the reply.
I have been using XBMC V16 and not upgraded to Kodi 19. However as per your advice I did install Kodi 19 and noticed the following issues:-
1. Kodi is unable to add my network drive working on upnp (MYCloud) even when I give it the IP address. All my media is stored on this. XBMC on the other hand is easily able to add this drive and stays connected.
2. Kodi shows resolution of Full HD whereas XBMC shows 4K which is the correct resolution.

Hence I uninstalled Kodi. Need to find a solution in my existing XBMC 16.
Thanks

Have you tried alternative solutions ? LibreElec, Corelec ?

1. Kodi 19 has seen a few security updates with regards to external connectivity, i.e. UPnP. Just use SMB with your MyCloud drive instead or if it supports it, use NFS. You'll need to configure Kodi 19 to connect to your MyCloud with SMB manually at first but that literally takes a couple of minutes to do at the most & then you're all sorted after that!!

Once done, just save your "sources.xml" file from Kodi's userdata directory & in the future you can just drop that file into the userdata folder of any working Kodi & it'll automatically configure your existing SMB sources.

2. Only Kodi's actual GUI is output at 1080p, any 4K media you have on your shares will still playback at their native resolution providing all of your hardware supports 4K as well.

You've kind of gone backwards & you're doing everything over & over for the sake of quickly double checking a couple of things before reverting ;).

@Parambir

to confirm what @ArcticWolf has advised

I also have a MyCloud(Home) NAS storage device and I would suggest for Kodi 19 to see your media then assign an a "fixed" IP to your MyCloud from the router and then connect via SMB using the settings shown below. Also using Kodi file manager add a new source using the IP address/folder to where your media is located on your MyCloud.

Everything works fine :)(y)

as a matter of interest do you know which database this is, where it is located, and whether you could use this in either migration to a newer version of Kodi and/or on a fresh install of the same version of Kodi to keep your "Kodi" watched status ??

I'm certainly no expert but as far as I'm aware the watched status/resume points are simply located & ammended as required on the main video database table itself, i.e. your MyVideosxxx.db. (Rather than there being separate files recording that particular info externally that you could backup separately etc.).

The Kodi backup add-on is obviously one possibility if you're wiping & reinstalling the same version of Kodi as that backs up the entire MyVideosxxx.db & you'd be retaining the same actual DB version anyway so fairly straightforward in that instance.

It's when you're shifting versions things can potentially require more effort or get a little more tricky & we all have different ways of maintaining our libraries. From those that use local .NFO files only & don't externally scrape any media information right the way through to those that use a MySQL server running on a NAS or another dedicated device to maintain their Kodi library.

I'm continuing to use a MySQL server for my Kodi library on a NAS so this exact procedure is incredibly simple for me as Kodi automatically migrates the entire library to new database tables if Kodi is upgraded & it detects older .DB versions. (The older DB tables are also retained & preserved so if I suddenly changed my mind after said upgrade if there was something I didn't like, I could immediately revert back & my original library would still be exactly as it was. If happy with everything after upgrading, I can simply bin the older DB as or when required). Obviously, that's another option & it's a damn useful one if you use more than one device with Kodi installed, or one device that you're frequently flashing the firmware wiping Kodi each time in turn.

That simple migration includes all of my watched status, resume points, my own * user ratings, & the play counts/dates when I last watched any given movie/TV show. Otherwise, because each Kodi device essentially connects as a client, they all share the same central library DB as it's configured & each can update or modify the library seamlessly.

Having said that, I think there are some differences for those that use local .NFO files only for managing their Kodi library rather than externally scraping media information from a remote source but I'd assume anyone already setup to use .NFO files to manage & maintain their Kodi DB would also be aware of the required entries in their advancedsettings.xml file too & the correct export/import procedures respectively.

Kodi's own built in export/import database options could also be used but I never used them myself so I can't really give any specifics there. Given that we often test multiple MINIX devices especially with Kodi and/or how frequently we flash new firmware versions as well, by the time I actually needed my first library migration I'd already decided it was going to be far, far simpler just using a single library on the MySQL server instead.

Kodi also may not import watched status or resume points by default in certain circumstances so you simply need to add a couple of lines to an advanced settings.xml file to ensure the info is correctly imported.

More info on those particulars here including the specific tags that need to be added to the advanced settings.... https://kodi.wiki/view/Import-export_library/Video .

Granted, most users tend to run a single device with a single library, so either the backup add-on or the export/import options would probably be preferable & just use Google to fill in any blanks depending on a fresh install or an upgrade :).

Thank you for the reply and also ticking me off for not putting enough effort (double checking) before reverting.
I installed Kodi 19 again and was able to add MyCloud drive as my source. I was also successfully able to play videos. But I noticed following issues:-

1. I enabled the Watchlist addon but still no checkmarks came up on videos I watched. By watched I mean I started to play a video then moved the slider randomly till I reached the end of video. But even on restarting the Kodi, the watched indication did not come up. I am sure I configured the addon correctly.

2. I enabled to download subtitles if no local subs are found. I enabled some subs addons such as opensource etc but none get a subtitle. I remember a very good subs addon "BSPlayer" which is there in XBMC and almost always finds a sub for me.

3. My Minix is connected through an HDMI to my DTS 7.2 receiver. In audio settings I enabled audio passthough to play movies with multi channel audio (DTS) in its native format. However I noticed that with this setting enabled (passthough enabled) there is no audio heard. I can only hear where passthrough is disabled. This however works absolutely fine on XBMC.

Now I am not propagating XBMC but Kodi 19 seems to be adding more issues than I bargained for.

Any help?
