mcu3 help needed

I set everything up as you suggested. I also updated Youtube to the latest version an hour ago. Everything was fine but as soon as I selected the 4k resolution the problems started again. Green squares and restarted box. Never had any problems in the past few weeks with 4k resolution. Not even warped video issues (squeezed left and right). the only change on my U22 was the update to the V8 firmware, the update of the Youtube app and the update of Youtube Vanced. I do not know what to think...

I can understand your disappointment. My extensive testing got me to recommend not to update to V8. This said, YouTube has been making frequent updates to the app. Not knowing what might be behind Vance, I have to assume it somehow uses the engine supplied by the YouTube app updates.

In short. Making the changes I recommended to the settings of the YouTube app partially solves the problems regarding the squishing of the videos, yet I still got some set backs needing to restart some videos after they got affected when I advanced the video moving the slider to the right. Not always though. Regarding 4k I haven't noticed any trouble, but I always tested after having cleared all cache and closing all apps. I will test further.

Anyway, SmartYoutube has always been my preferred choice for 4k content. I am willing to find out what might be now causing all this with the other apps.

After having played more than 20, HDR and non HDR, 4K content in the YouTube app I can now confirm I couldn't find anything wrong at all for a U22-XJ. Firmware version V006A with YouTube app updated with version from the 2nd March (latest AFAIK).

Please feel free to comment.

Until a few weeks ago (max 2 weeks) all videos worked perfectly even 4k. Resolutions higher than 1080p are now shown with green lines and squares and the box restarts. While 1080p videos look squeezed as if they were 4: 3 (warped image and black bands on the right and left). I don't understand why these problems started (both with the official Youtube app and with Youtube Vanced which worked beautifully)
Hi.
Please test with this:
-only pre-installed apps and youtube
-Or test uninstalling the apps you don't need (one by one)

Maybe you have one or more apps that is causing the issue (conflit).

Please tell us more details:
-the problem is only with Youtube?
-did you test kodi?
-are you using original U22-XJ hdmi cable?
-did you test with another TV?
-are you using latest TV firmware?
-Are you using ethernet or WIFI? (Recommended is ethernet).

Please verify your installed u22-xj apps.
There are several factors that may cause the issue.

Latest u22-xj firmware is here: (official and recommended)
https://theminixforum.com/index.php...w-20210203-bugtracker-ota-now-available.3722/

Some things you also can do: (For now).
-Restart all devices (TV, router, u22-xj, switches (if you have), etc..)
-Check your settings (all devices).
-Check your HDMI cable or change with another one.
-Check Youtube configurations.

My u22-xj screen resolution settings:
-Auto switch to best resolution on
-HDR policy (adaptive HDR)
-the other settings - i don't change

Some 1080 videos that were shot vertical turn small hard to watch. I have to change them to 360 resolution to get full size. I can't watch 1440 or 2160 they are colored bars on both my u22.
Any video link? This will help to troubleshoot. Note - vertical videos don't play at all on 1440P or 2160P on certain media player. Official YouTube app won't display those resolution at all. But 3rd party app like SmartTube does.

Same problem here. One of the most default widely used apps... Youtube. Scrambled video, green, blocks, anything above 720p gives this result.

As long as I keep settings in youtube to low quality it works.

Other video apps work without a problem.
Latest ota firmware update, latest youtube app update.

I went back to V006a it did not change MCU 4 back to Mcu3 and the problem still exists

May I ask, did you fully install everything from scratch, or did you use the 'so called' method that allows the installed apps to be kept in place?

I can change the resolution down to 360p YouTube videos go back to the right size. 360p resolution isn't that good to watch.

Thanks for your feedback. I don't understand what this stupid problem is due to. Unfortunately it happens to me too ... and it's very annoying

Flashing a different firmware version will not change the MCU version. They are totally independent!

Dave500 tried to flash the firmware as there was speculation that the problem was due to the firmware and not the MCU version (see post #27).

But, yes, if they were expecting the MCU to change (as hinted in post #31), you are of course right.

So the question remains opened: is there a way to flash MCU back to v3?

Personally, I rarely watch Youtube on the box, if I do I use NewPipe, and at 720p, so despite having MCU v4, I don't experience the problem.

I did a full install.

Thanks. I doubted it would be MCU. The U22-XJ I'm using for these tests is MCU4 and V006A. No major issues since changing the "settings" for the Youtube app as I described above (an exception below*).

However some issues have been happening to a U9-H with the Youtube videos. For instance, when using NewPipe or SmartYoutube and changing from one of these to the Youtube app and trying to go back to one of the others the box has to be restarted or error notifications block those other apps from playing. This is new from maybe weeks ago.

Although the above situation doesn't concern the U22 and it doesn't occur in the U22, there might be some effects of using some video apps to access Youtube files to be causing issues. Yet, you mentioned in #9 above that you only use the Youtube app. Could it be some update to Chrome? I left mine at factory version...

* - I could reproduce the "squashed effect" in one occasion but it was quickly solved by entering the Youtube app Settings, (bellow the "Advanced" you have a "Settings > Video Quality Settings"), to check both of the selections for "Higher Picture Quality" were still checked. When I got back to the video it was no longer squashed, so... all this is hard to explain.
