Minix can't connect to laptop with Windows 11

Hi everyone,

On my previous laptop I had a shared folder that I could access with my Minix. I recently bought a new laptop (Windows 11) and now I'm unable to connect to this laptop. I'm on a public network and I set every internet connection to "trusted" in Kaspersky internet security. My shared folder is \\DONNW\drums. I have added "guest" in the folder's share settings and everyone has full control. I've checked all settings for the share with the Microsoft help desk, so I hope that all of these settings are correct. Maybe I'm doing something wrong on the Minix:

In Kodi 16.1 I go to videos >files>Add videos..>Browse>Add network location. Here I've tried both NFS and SMB. Server name is blank and next to "Shared folder" I enter \\DONNW\drums. There is no pw, so I leave the Username and Password fields empty and click on OK. Then I get the message "connection timed out".

I don't know why it's not working. Could someone help me out here?

Thanks in advance!
Martijn

might need to check SMB sharing set up in win 11 ??

@Martijn

I advice you to do:
-you already enable smb server (option turn windows features on/off)
-use private network
-leave firewall on and windows update on
-use username and password
-workgroup - choose one workgroup name and join that workgroup (if you more more windows devices)
-the server (or other pc, if you have everything under control) can be acess either :
Device name or ip adress
-after server changes sometimes you have to reboot/logoff (the server) for the client have acess to shared folders, remote desktop, etc.

Thank you Notrui, may I ask for a bit of help to get these things to work?
1. If I turn on password protected sharing, where do I set the username and password that I can use on the Minix? And would I have to type these in every time the Minix wants to connect to the shared folder, or is that a one-time thing?
2. Do I need a workgroup for the password protected sharing to work? And how would I add the Minix to that group? I don't see the Minix in devices.
3. Is in my case the server name \\DONNW\? How it's set up now (no server name, just "\\DONNW\drums" at shared folder path), I see "DONNW" in "files" in Kodi and I have to click on it to access the shared folder. It would be easier, if the drums folder was directly accessible at "files", but I don't remember how to set that up (my old laptop is almost 8 years old, so the last time I had to fiddle with the settings was 8 years ago).

Question 1:
Server settings:
-Accounts info: (you can view/modify your account in system\accounts\your info)
I use Microsoft account( it is the best to control all PCs) but you can use local account (use username and password)
-shared folders settings:
attached file - test shared folder
Question 2:
You don´t need to modify the workgroup , you can leave it as default settings (it is only recommended if you have multiple PCs)
If you want to modify go to system\about\domain or workgroup (you can modify/view your device settings)
Question 3:
client - kodi (example if you want videos): Go to Videos\ Add video source\browse for new share\add network location and select protocol - windows SMB and enter your credentials
attached file -kodi network location

Note:
If you have all your content shared (and well configured) and kodi is also well configured:
-Turn on your PC (server)
-Turn on your client (minix) and run kodi
-after you run kodi all your shared content will be available (Movies/Tv shows/videos/pictures/music/files , etc)

Thank you, I also use my Microsoft account, so if I turn on password protected sharing, so I have to use my Microsoft e-mail and pw in Kodi?
