Minix Neo U1 + Kodi 18.x = jerky movies

Anyone have advancedsettings for smoth play without microstuttering on movies? Is there anything i can fix that?
Advancedsettings.xml does not improve your playback.

Advancedsettings.xml for kodi is a "extra" , it is like the name say a "advanced" setting and allows you to "centralize" your data in one place (NAS for example).

You need first to improve your local connection/settings and then copy basic advancedsettings.xml (if you don't have.

The advancedsettings.xml can most definitely improve your playback if properly used & depending on subjective conditions, & usage mate :)!!!

(The advanced settings are useful for a whole lot more other than pointing your Kodi clients towards a MySQL server that may be running on a local NAS alone!! (That's just one very useful feature, but it's literally just the tip of the iceberg of what it can actually be used for or achieve :).))

Some very common adjustments frequently used for tweaking/improving Kodi's playback are the buffer mode, memory size (buffer size), or the read factor (buffer fill rate). Have a read here for more info....

Otherwise, you'd be amazed just how much you can actually modify or change using Kodi's advanced settings. (There are countless settings available to modify/tweak just about every single aspect of Kodi, etc.) (Or completely mess Kodi up if misused lol ;).) More info here :)....

Try @pusb87 's advancedsettings.xml file posted earlier under this thread here (post #23)...

https://theminixforum.com/index.php...-kodi-18-x-jerky-movies.1559/page-2#post-9269

It's generally a good starting point & then you can tweak @pusb87 's example further (if required) depending on your subjective results.

Are you using audio passthrough to external hardware as well? If no, you could also first try enabling Kodi's "sync playback to display" setting. (If you are using passthrough don't use this setting or it'll completely disable your audio passthrough ;).)

Have you also tried using Kodi's "adjust display refresh rate" setting? (I.e. if you have a 4K TV set to 4K@60 Hz you may experience micro-stutter when viewing movies with 23.976 / 24 FPS frame rates. Set this particular setting to "on start/stop" for frame rate switching to specifically match that of any media you may be viewing.)

Depending on your setup try both of these settings first before trying to add an advancedsettings.xml file, they may actually cure your stutter by themselves. If they're still not helping, then give the XML file a try :).

Let us know if you're seeing any improvements either way or if you're still experiencing the stuttering :).

@ArcticWolf

If advancedsettings.xml improve playack is just a little....(with tweaks, etc)

There are no miracles:)
The most important thing is our connection to the server....

So again, first and most important is improve local connection and then use advancedsettings.xml.

@gamom

try @pusb87 and see if it works better.

Last resort you can try factory reset first router (and maybe later minix) i know that is annoying but sometimes is the best solution.
I also don't know if you use rj45 or not but i advice you using cable for better results, smooth playback.

I have zero problems streaming from my NAS even larger files in 4k and with a simple advancedsettings.xml (just modified for my NAS).
I did not modify read buffer, memory size, buffer mode, i just kept a simple .xml file.

I did not use this:

One reference was this:

I feel your pain ;). How many other threads to this one did you previously post your advancedsettings.xml file under ? (He asks rhetorically ;). Sigh :oops::rolleyes:.)

@gamom

Check this again:

With the help of especially @ArcticWolf , youtube and many reading i manage to put advancedsettings.xml on my NAS and it is working great :)

Headed off at a bit of a tangent to the topic under discussion again bud ;)!!! We're discussing (thread) jerky playback/stutter/micro-stutter & we seem to have jumped over to your use of MySQL & NAS.

@gamom makes no mention of using anything exotic such as a NAS. Only that he is experiencing stutter with Kodi & his equipment. Without any confirmation that he's using anything other than the basic options available (internal memory, SD card or USB storage) NAS is another matter entirely & heading off into other topics is unnecessarily preemptive.

That's fine, I was merely questioning your original statement in post #41 that the "advanced settings.xml does not improve playback".

The point is our answers to users experiencing problems such as this aren't here to determine how well our equipment is working & not everyone is as fortunate. Others (like @gamom) can & do experience playback problems that sometimes requires the use of an advanced settings file to minimise or remedy their individual problems. It's why they're available for those users that do experience such issues subjectively. (Try to remember when replying & offering advice that it's to help these other users with something they've specifically asked for. Simply stating what you're using with your equipment & that you don't have any problems with it yourself doesn't help them to fix their problems :).)

(To be clear, for what it's worth, thankfully I don't have any such problems & neither have I needed to modify an advanced settings.xml for video playback with my MINIX hardware, but, it's not about us :)!)

I can certainly empathize for those that do experience playback problems & hopefully we can help @gamom fix his with more information if he hasn't already sorted it :).

@ArcticWolf yes you are right "We're discussing (thread) jerky playback/stutter/micro-stutter " but @gamom PM earlier to me :) and i gave him some links, configurations, some things that may help him.
Maybe with more links he can adjust/modify his settings better.

I feel your pain ;). How many other threads to this one did you previously post your advancedsettings.xml file under ? (He asks rhetorically ;). Sigh :oops::rolleyes:.)
not that so much but the fact there are two advancedsettings.xml setups just a few posts above his own post.
