Respected forum members.
After reading bunch of posts here as well on other sites , i couldn't find the better place to ask for assistance then here.
I own neo u9-h box , with latest official firmware.( didn't have a need for community edition)
After even factory reset of the box i am having issues on playing original size video( movie) within Kodi.
As soon as i turn on the original size picture becomes displaced and jumping over the screen ( normal size works without a problem, stretch to 16:9 works without a problem,on the "o" info shows that it is UHD but it is playing the screen only as 1920:1080).
Minix box is connected to the AVR which supports HDCP 2.2 Denon x2500H.
Tried even connecting it directly to Tv but the effect is the same.
In settings display resolution is set to 4k2k smtp .

I apologise if mistyping something but i believe that you would know what i am talking about.

Don't use 4K@SMTP, that's your problem!!!

Use 4K@60 if your TV supports it or if possible just use the auto detect for the display resolution.

Hi.
Thanks for the feedback.
I have been trying to switch it to 4k60 and even, switch to auto detect resolution, but the same problem occurs.
Restarting/reinstalling kodi as well as restarting tv box every time after change of resolution doesn't help.
I have another tv box ( formuler z8 ) which i tried with the same settings but that one works without a problems on the tv resolutions , but doesn't do well on passthrough audio, lacking decoding options because of which i prefer using minix which is superior on that filed.

Are you using Kodi's "whitelist" function & have you whitelisted a resolution of 4096 x 2160? (If yes, remove 4096 x 2160 from your whitelist.) For UHD you need 3840 x 2160 whitelisted.

Does your TV definitely support 4K@60? Try 4K@50 or 4K@30 instead, for example.

Otherwise, try setting the U9-H display to 4K@60, reboot & then check the U9-H display resolution on restart to ensure the change of resolution has actually held & that it hasn't reverted back by itself. (If it's back at 4K@2K SMPT you may need to factory reset again, but run through the following first.).....

What happens if you try another media player such as MX Player or VLC? (Same thing or do they output the correct display normally?)

Which version of Kodi?

Try troubleshooting with a completely fresh install of Kodi & don't install any backups, add-ons or builds while testing.

Does your TV have a setting for the aspect ratio? It may be named something like or similar to, 16:9 Overscan, Just Scan or Screenfit. (If yes, typically it needs to be turned OFF! If it's already off, try turning it on depending on your specific TV.)

You may also have a button on your TV remote labelled "Aspect". Try toggling through the available aspect ratios by pressing the aspect button until you find the right ratio.

Your AVR could also be part of the issue. Try troubleshooting the display resolution issue with the U9-H directly connected to your TV. If the display then outputs normally you'll then know that there's a setting on your AVR that may need altering. (I also use an AVR & I disable anything that could potentially affect performance or other devices (such as 4K upscaling) to allow the TV to handle all processing itself.)

4K@2K SMPT is essentially true 4K (4096 x 2160), which is possibly why that particular resolution won't display or fit correctly on your 4K UHD TV. As long as you're using this resolution it won't fit your UHD display correctly.

The resolution you actually need for UHD is 3840 x 2160 which is automatic with any other 4K resolution available on the U9-H except for 4K@2K SMPT as just explained above.

While unlikely to contribute to this particular issue, I take it you've also tried swapping HDMI cables around that are already proven as functioning normally with UHD content to ensure it's not a cabling issue too?

Give that lot a try & see how you get on :).

Hi .
TV resolution is set up to 4k2k@60 display settings in minix. 420 10 bit in advanced settings
On the white list in Kodi i have no option of setting it up to 4k resolution ,just a 1080p max , but no whitelist option has been selected
I am using a diggz xenon debrid build.
Kodi 18.9
Minixis on fw008 , last official version.
TV is LG 55UM7400 , 3840x2160 @60Hz natively
VLC i have tested and it is running without a problem with the 4k movie that i have .
I have tried connecting the box directly to the TV but with the same effect on trying to play the movie in the original size , so it seems like the only issue is with Kodi itself.
Several HDMI cables i tried in suspicion that it might be to the cable, and it is connected through Chord hdmi 2.0 to the risiver , and Qed 2.0 hdmi from receiver to the TV .
The other TV box that i have ( Formuler Z8) , on the same kodi build diggz xenon debrid is outputting the video signal without a problem, ( but lacking dts & true hd decoding options).
Tonight i will try just on the other TV

OK, so that's a fairly good indication that Kodi itself is the problem. Leave the resolution set to 4K2K@60 too.

As mentioned in my previous post above, test a completely fresh install of Kodi without installing ANY add-ons, backups or especially builds!!! (Builds can often cause unforeseen problems.)

If a clean Kodi works normally & as expected, you'll have the likely culprit as to the cause.

Is a completely clean Kodi with all settings at default now functioning normally for you :)?

Additionally, based on some of your other comments in your earlier posts.....

...If you're viewing media encoded at 3840 x 2160 & you choose "original size" under video settings/view mode in Kodi, that too will also enlarge the image & it won't correctly fit your UHD display!! (You don't need to manually set Kodi to the "original size" setting & I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve by changing this setting?)

As long as you have the actual U9-H resolution set to 4K2K@60, all you then need to do is just leave the view mode set to "normal" in Kodi & everything should display as intended.

I suspect you've essentially got a possible complication caused by the build you're using, but you've also compounded the problems further yourself by incorrectly using the SMPT setting & setting Kodi's video settings to "original size" as well.

I understand your other Android device may allow you to use the build & these settings you specifically altered, but ultimately they shouldn't actually be needed on your other Android device either. (Try also setting your other Android device to 4K2K@60, & leave Kodi's video settings set to normal instead of original size & you'll probably find that will also output your media at the correct resolution & aspect ratio too. If it has undesirable effects with your other Android device then obviously change the settings back.) Ultimately, however, hopefully we've determined the causes of the problems you've experienced with your U9-H.

Hopefully that should sort everything out & you can now enjoy watching your media as intended with your U9-H, & enjoy the extra benefits of HD/spatial audio with your AVR as well :).

Let us know if your problems are resolved.

Hi ArcticWolf
Thanks for the detailed instructions and assistance.
On the clean kodi settings, again it happened to scramble like the video,
To describe it like this: seems like it displayed video right to encoded size , 3840x2160 ( checked with the “o” option about displaying information) , but putting it to original mode it kept display size as 1920x1080 as GUI, same as 3840x1600 , so it is playing like part of the 4k picture with messed up frame rates which are jumping over the 1080p screen. .
Tried 2 more builds next to the one that i am always using.
And clean kodi install , just playing from a 4k movie stored on external drive
All options tried both directly to TV or receiver pass through
With original size my only intention was to reduce and eliminate the black bars on some streamed 4k content which is encoded to 3840x1600,
Further more one only weird thing that i figured out is that minix on the same settings works out with out a problem on the second TV, (Tronix) but LG is not playing it well .
Weird situation but seems that minix and my LG panel (having doubts that my panel is low quality, Q.C. sucks at LG , which made me play and try also in the tv aspect ratio settings that you wrote me in previous post.)are not a good match, but I’ll continue using it because of decoding options. If i get bored with black bars I’ll switch to stretch to 16:9 which fills it in without black bars.
Last option that i was considering was maybe to try to reflash the firmware or eventually try the CE firmware. But have been playing last 2 days with it and tomorrow is a new week starting. So will see how much will my nerves hold me until i start playing with it again.
Before U-9H i had X-8H and i like the Minix boxes they are always top quality, after that i would only maybe go for Nvidia Shield pro.

I am at complete loss in trying to fathom out what you are doing and what your issue is but i doubt very much that the LG TV is the cause.

You're welcome bud, however, ;).....

....OK, so stop trying to set Kodi to original size as already outlined above & the other odd side effects that's causing should also cease as well!!

The "black bars", or mattes, or letterboxing is 100% intentional & it's supposed to be there with wide-screen media mate ;)!!!! (In many cases the letterboxing is actually there to preserve the correct aspect ratio which you're intentionally trying to undo, which in turn is why the image doesn't fit your display & why you're experiencing these odd display issues. Do you understand this?)

If you continue to use "original size" (or any other means of adjusting the native aspect ratio) in an attempt to remove the letterboxing (black bars) in Kodi, then consequently you're messing up the correct aspect ratio yourself & the image will always become too large for your display because of it. (I.e. in all probability you're the problem here, not your hardware ;).) Leave it set to normal. (Which is worse? The letterboxing that's there as intended by the director, or the various weird side effects being caused by you trying to remove the letterboxing?)

I'd also suggest that you Google the reasons why directors/editors use letterboxing ;).

As for the builds you've mentioned & ultimately the sources of some of the media you're viewing, they can't be discussed on this forum in any way, shape or form.

At least you now know what the probable cause of these issues are & the rest is up to you at this point ;).
