Minix Support U22

Hi.

After some consideration as to post this or not. I decided for the former in order to try and bring some hope for all who are frustrated with the lack of support from Minix staff in Hong Kong.

Out of courtesy and respect I will not publish my emails to their CEO.

But to summarise: I wrote to him yesterday with a firm but as always, polite complaint about the lack of support regarding updates and fixes to bugtracker FW006A. And indeed the last one FW007, which was of no real solution.
And, also the lack of response from minix staff on forum complaints.

He replied late last night Asian Time, and has taken a serious approach to my issues, not just mine but ALL issues from all members.

He has instructed his support staff to get a grip of All issues on u22 faults. And to respond to forum complaints by answering them on the forum. I have a copy of his email to the staff. He did also say that they were having problems with passthrough due to lack of support from Amlogic.

He was genuinely apologetic and thanked me for raising all the points that I did.

So heres hoping. Please don't shoot the messenger. And let's give them the time and see if actions speak louder than words.

I doubt there will be any response from Minix today, because as he pointed out, today is a national holiday in Hong Kong.

Obviously you are still unhappy with Minix And I can certainly understand that. We all feel the same way. But some of us choose to voice our opinions differently. That is just a fact of life and not a criticism.

But allow me to try and explain a little more. I did say in my post that we should wait and see if actions speak louder than words. And only time will tell if the CEO is just spouting hot air to keep the peace.

Over the weekend I have had further dealings with the CEO and suggested a few things. And please do not forget it is only some 48hours or so since I made contact with him. AND despite the fact that is a public holiday weekend, he is still working to try and resolve my feedback of complaints/ issues. Perhaps the man is genuinely serious after all. Every email he has sent me has been copied to ALL of his staff and to me for their appropriate action and response.

This morning I received a reply from him in response to another email from me.

1. He acknowledges that since John left in May that their support to this forum has been extremely lacking. And before you say anything; no, it does not excuse the software/firmware issue that have been ongoing since the release of the U22 in April 2020.

He thanked me for my input and advice to try and re-establish contact and good faith with the forum members. And is eager to rebuild the relationship with our forum.

2. He has sent the SDK to "Mickey and Donald" and instructed them as a priority to resolve the passthrough issue.

3. He has instructed the support team and developers to deal with the other outstanding issues on Bugtracker FW006A.

4. He has listed the various problems that he is encountering with components, production capacity from his manufacturer and a few other issues that are slowing down their ability to solve the issues on the U22.

5. He has instructed all his support team to involve themselves and respond to all queries on the forum. Even if they do not have the answer to the query, they will be cognisant of the issue and will keep the forum apprised of their efforts.

I have now replied to him by stating that if he wanted us to have faith in his words and proposed actions, to do the following as a sign of genuine intrention to get back in the saddle and restore some trust for Minix followers.

1.. Publish an official Firmware release of FW007 on the Forum,complete with the usual instructions as done hitherto.

2. Publish an official Bugtracker FW007 on the Forum.

3. In future, do not release any Firmware to the forum or public until it has been passed to MInix forum staff for testing and approval. By doing so, it will alleviate many complaints/misundertandings by users etc.

Now......... I have taken the time as a minix customer to address this matter not just for me, but also for all minix users. I fully understand your mistrust and cynicism towards anything you have had before from support staff. But, this issue was addressed to the CEO and not the hired help. Lets give the man a chance to see if he is as good as his words.

If he lets us down, I will just hang up my boots and continue to enjoy my basic expectations from the U22. Namely, IPTV, a few movie apps and a few other streaming services that work perfectly well for my needs, both visually and audio. I don't do Kodi/Samba/Root/corelec?Nas or slimbox or any other such configuration.

Final point...if nothing comes of my efforts, then perhaps other minix members can take up the challenge with him and quote this post.

I hope this helps in some way. All I ask is for a little patience and hope.

Hello ,i will Say you the things how i sée it and maybe you understand better my opinion

Firstly the point that John go away from minix have nothing to doo with it !!

When you put a New product on the market you have to test it and look that all works perfect before sale it and i dont speak about the sound problem

Exemple : wallpaper Always zoom ,problemes with keyboard "Enter"....

Imagine you buy a brand New car with Bose sound système but the manufacturer have just put the radio in the car but there are no boxes in the Doors and this in all cars ...because he have forget to buy boxes and mount them..... because they have not check the car before bring it out ...and 1,5 years latter you have Always no boxes in thé car !!
But you have pay thé Price for thé complet sound systèm in thé car ....are you happy and Say be patient they will mount them ?did you Say this After 1, 5 years ?

For me : all options how are in thé box have to work correctly
If it not work when you buy thé product there are just 2 options
1- they have not test the product before sale it
2- they have Say it not work properly but this is not important we sale it and see later ..
All this have start with a slow CPU fréquence in the box that they have change
Samba problèmes
Enter from keyboard problèmes
Wallpaper problème
Update bug in first Room impossible to update with wifi
Sound problemes
Passtrough problèmes....and a lot of other things

All peopel how have buy minix A3 have mouse problèmes, scrolling.....
What about touchscreen compatiblity in u22xj that a lot of peopel have asked for make work ??

Lets talk about x39 how is Moore expensive as u22xj :
AT this Time i have no sound output with bluetooth on the box !!! Ok this box have also jack 3,5 audio out ,but i have 2 Big Sony bluetooth speaker and the x39 is with minix mount fixed on a 10* touchscreen how is on the table ( living rom) ,so without bluetooth sound i am in a shitty situation !!!
Thanks minix !! For have change the sound outputs ...now i have to rest on old firmware for have bluetooth sound and Can not update the box or i loose the bluetooth sound !! Is this serious ?

I fully understand all the things you have listed and I agree.

But please do not misquote me. Read my post again. I never said that the problems were because John left the company.

In fact I said it had nothing to do with him because the box was released in April 2020 by Minix and the faults were there at the time of the U22s release.

What I was trying to say, is that The CEO stated that since John's departure, minix had not been so proactive with the Forum.

Other point : when you are bringing out New box its clear that a lot of youtube chanel will test thé box and give thé Price , feedback...
I Can give links from this tests with fw01
They speak about : CPU IS a littel bit slow ,not possible to update with wifi ,sound problemes......
On a brand New box ....is this a good publicity for Minix ? How they managed the buisness ???????? Clearly not correctly

Its because all this things that minix have Lost a lot of user ,how Say clearly that they will never buy minix again ...
I dont thing that its this how minix want ,so they have to change a lot of things for not loose Moore users and become a better user Feedback
Give thé peopel what they want and they will bé happy and give a good feedback ,this feedback makes sale Moore boxes ...hear a littel bit more thé users what they need or want in a box ..

It actually all started to go downhill with Kens departure a couple of years or so back for those that remember him.
Yes all have changed in thé wrong direction
I never forget thé " old team" and thé old forum with a banner for contact développer if you need spécial features/ options in a Room ...they make it !!

Thanks for your effort's,I don't own a u22,but i want too! Just would like too know that the scrolling with air mouse has been fixed and that it has hdmi spoofing working and i would buy one,still have 2 x u1's working and being used daily,just would like to upgrade. many thanks =)

Scrolling with the air mouse still does not work (it is ridiculous to buy a Minix air mouse and not be able to use it with Minix devices ...). I've lost hope by now. This U22 is the most disappointing Minix box of all those purchased over the years (always all Minix) and let's not talk about the non-existent assistance. I really think that after years, my next Android box will NOT be a Minix ...

I feel your pain bud,i held off from buying one at the start too see how thing's panned out.
 
I am finally using mine on a regular basis after storing it in the bedroom. I found out that just leaving it on all the time and just rebooting it once in awhile seems to make it work a bit better. The airmouse still doesn't work as well but I deal with it. Patience is really needed now a days.
 
Wow.... It's crazy to see how far south everything has gone as of late.
It really does prove the point that a company's greatest asset is its workers.

You may use the best hardware, know all the right words to say.. but without people on the floor doing the hard and dirty work you end up being all talk and no substance.

Reminds me of when I bought the Madcatz MOJO. It sported the Tegra 4 SOC which at the time was leaps and bounds ahead of the others on the market. However they released it and thats it. Nothing else.. no updates, no support, nothing. I spent hundred on that paperweight. At the same time I also spent a couple hundred on a certain MINIX X5 from a then little known company. A few of us noticed the devs were actively trying to get feedback so we banded together to create a forum to help facilitate that and hopefully build a warm and welcoming community.

I believe we and MINIX succeeded in that. It's so disheartening to see what's happening now. The community we all helped build is still here and looks like they're trying to fight on. With no help from the company itself, I wonder how long that can last :(

As a now outsider looking in, it would appear the latest are essentially "just another crappy Chinabox" with a hefty price tag attached due to past successes and hard work.

I wish you all the best, I hope things improve... I'm looking to update my hardware shortly and for the first time since 2014 I dont think I will choose a MINIX product :(

A relative recently asked what he should upgrade to in terms of a Android box/ media hub.... sadly I couldn't recommend MINIX! :cry:

Now a days people want and quite frankly deserve to have things work properly right out of the box !

Its normal ,you pay for a product ,if you chose this product its because you have sée the specs ...and its what you need ..so if after buying you sée it not work how it was describe ..you are not happy and go to forum for Ask what's going on ...and you are patient and wait ...but when you sée that After more then 1,5 year nothing have changed...proberly you will never buy again from this manufacturer.......thats how it works ...
For me and lot of peopel its not thé passtrough/sound problem,i Can use coreelec for this ..
Its the rest ,and that minix not listen the users ....for make users happy you have to give thèm what they want/need ,they not make it -they loose clients,and become a very Bad publicity ...
