Minix T5 beginner problems...

Movies tested are not this ones with problems codec MX Player (2160p.WEB.H265, 1080p BluRay 10bit x265 HEVC AAC 5., 2160p Multi 4K UltraHD BluRay HEVC 10 Bits Dolby ATMOS 7.1, 160p 4K UltraHD BluRay x265 HEVC 10 Bits Multi TrueHD 5.1 ...). I know that some movies have subtitle coded in movie file...
I tested with "normal movies", 720p, h264...
From outside network is workind with webdav https connection, very good. ;)

Whenever I've required a separate .SRT file for movie subs I've needed to add the additional extension .en to the .srt filenames or Kodi doesn't see them. (This is regardless of where the subs are stored & .en is obviously for English subs so you may require a different 2 letter code for subs in an alternate language.)

Examples.....

Movie name

John Wick (2014).mkv

.SRT subtitle naming convention

John Wick (2014).en.mkv

.SRT files are supposed to work if named identically & stored in the same directory as the movie but I've never got them to work without adding .en for external English subs. Add the .en extension, they then work perfectly.

Give it a try & see if your external subs then become available & don't forget you may need a separate 2 letter code for other languages such as .es (Spanish), .it (Italian), .fr (French), & so on.

Good to know, thanks mate ! (y)

Please note that -in the case your movie is not kept inside the box, but in an external source- when you download the subtitles with Kodi (and even if you have set Kodi to put the subtitle file in the same movie directory) it will download the file to the "temp" folder within */Android/Data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/Kodi/

That is fine for that very same moment when you got the file for the movie, but if you try to play it later it won't find the subtitles file anymore. Yet, the file will be there, and you can actually copy-paste it from that location into the folder where you have the movie, in your media source, when you use a file explorer with the function to show hidden files activated, and able to act through your network.

@ArcticWolf

he's not encoding his movies ;)
and it would be a sure bet the subititles are already embedded in the files

Let's just say I was choosing my phrasing carefully lol ;)!!

Not necessarily a sure bet that they're embedded in this instance from the comments made, no.

I discovered Kodi, i manage to view all the movies. But i have a problem with subtitles, kodi never load subtitle file from the directory where are the movies...

Indicated that he's sourcing external or non-embedded subtitle files & manually placing them into the same directory as his movies/media.

I try to change name, i added ".en" and it worked for 1 movie. .

Also indicated that at least some of his external subtitle files are .SRT or another recognised external format that he's placing into the same directory as his movies. (Following my previous instructions for using & naming external subs worked for one he tested so that one at least had to be non-embedded.)

I suspect he may have a mix of different external subtitle formats such as .SRT, .IDX, .SUB, etc. which will ultimately need to be determined but the same naming conventions apply to any external sub file.

@bursucu , have you read the actual Kodi subs wiki? https://kodi.wiki/view/Subtitles.

:D

possibly, even though he may not need to.
Truth be told Im struggling to understand his posts !!

Precisely, the info provided isn't exactly crystal clear ;)!!

He can simply use the info supplied that he may need & disregard anything he doesn't :).

Tested home with SMB and now all the movies has subtitle!
Another problem, i have 16 GB memory and install programs, download... I added a memory card 32 GB. I format the sd card for "use like a internal storage", i added files and now tell me that run out of space...

In my experience it is better not to format the SD card as internal but as external.

Hi.
NFS also works for subtitles.
Your problem was for sure configuration... (kodi settings and files...)

As said: (example to work subtitles)
-create a movie folder
-inside the movie folder
movie name.mkv
movie name.srt

My apologies forum users/visitors....

Especially for anyone who participated in this thread regarding the renaming of subs..... I just spotted a typo I made in my post #17 of this thread (here - https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/minix-t5-beginner-problems.3520/#post-29211 ) regarding the additional .en extension for use with Kodi & .SRT filename extensions.

Some may have tried it literally including my dumbass typo, (& it obviously wouldn't have worked), while others may have spotted the typo & realised the .SRT extension would still apply regardless anyway.

I've edited the post accordingly with the correct information but I've also struck through the incorrect information & otherwise left the error in place in case anyone needs to check if that was the problem.

@bursucu , you said you tried renaming as per my example & it seemed to work for one file but not others. Obviously, if you renamed the .SRT files literally including my typo, that could have contributed also. (Or did you spot the typo anyway, added the .en extension to the subs file but correctly left the .SRT file extensions as .SRT?)

Just to be absolutely clear, here is a CORRECT example of the process you need to follow to name the media & .SRT files ;).

Examples.....

Movie name

John Wick (2014).mkv

.SRT subtitle naming convention

John Wick (2014).en.srt

Follow that same template for naming all external subs & hopefully they'll work.

You never did confirm what language your .SRT subtitle files actually are either & I'm assuming they're not actually English???. What language are your subs @bursucu ?
