Minix U1 To sell or not to sell!

I was using my Minix U1 regularly until netfilx wasn't supported. I see there's a thread explaining how to download an a new unofficial program or something using a PC but we only have a mac. Bit too much faff to find a pc right now, unless it is definitely worth the effort?
Other apps have stopped working too, since we are using a Chromecast now which I don't really like because it's streaming via wifi. Don't really want to fork out for another device as I thought this one would last a while. We have quite an old but decent TV and don't really want to get rid of it either!
I still have all the original packaging and two remotes so I was thinking about selling it on eBay unless someone can convince me otherwise.
Recently installed an Ethernet cable and says it isn't working either! I've tried turning the router on and off etc but no joy! Please help! Is it time to sell or please convince me otherwise :)

dont know what issues you are specificcaly experiencing but the U1 is probably the best of the Minix devices they have sold.


Mine is still going strong and used every day , no issues at all with ethernet. Using firmware FW0013

I just cannot connect using an ethernet cable so that is the first issue. Some applications have stopped working unless I am doing something stupid which is highly likely

Have you tried simply factory resetting the device if it's never been done & you're considering boxing it up or selling it anyway? (Just remember, all saved data/settings will be lost.)

If your next step is to get rid of it anyway, certainly no harm in trying ;).

I still got one of those rocking. Especially when you mention you don't have a last model TV, I would say that is pretty much as good as it gets in what a pure Android box can do.

I almost never connected mine to ethernet since the router was way apart from my main TV, but that box saved me hours of connecting computers around. I did plenty with it, since answering emails, to checking Office documents, downloads, web viewing, streaming 4k videos. It lacks the HDR capability, which is not so important if your content average is 1080p or less. Even a lot of 4k content is not HDR anyway.

More than what it can do for you, it is about what you can do with it, and it really is capable for a lot. We shouldn't try to convince you, you should be convinced by now. But someone here will certainly help should you wish to have it shinning back to life. Youtube and music are still great to play in it and you can connnec it to a receiver for better sound performance.

By the way,
You did connect the Ethernet in Settings, Network, right?

I do want to try and get it up and running again if possible. So I've managed to get the ethernet working so that is definitely a positive.
Having playback issues with Netflix, More 4, ITV hub and pretty much every streaming service I try. I would be grateful if anyone could help there, I haven't tried resetting it yet but I may consider this if there is nothing else which is obvious I need to do as very reluctant to type out passwords etc again!

All these UK TV apps are functioning well on my U1.
BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5
...and I'm not even in the UK! ;)
 
Good news, persistance has paid off. I now have Netflix, All 4, BBC player etc working and on the ethernet! without having to reset it. Woohoo! :love::geek: Thank you everyone

Hi Terrence,

I was being a bit dull to be honest, I initially plugged it into the wrong port on the router. Sorry I can't be of much help but have you tried a different ethernet cable?

Do you have the Ethernet switched ON?

If the answer is Yes then make sure WiFi is Off.
If the answer is No then switch On Ethernet.

In the screens below I have both WiFi and Ethernet switched to Off

Yip, I switch off WiFi and switch Ethernet on and still nothing. Perhaps a factory reset might fix this. I've also tried different cables and if I connect cable to laptop there is an Ethernet connection. Thx

Are you using a VPN with the U1, (app or otherwise)?

hi guys im new user i have been given a neo U1 from a mate, how can i factory reset it before i attempt to get this going? sorry if is a dumb question im new to this and im not a guru with computers. thanks a heap hope someone can help

Settings Cog >> Storage and Reset >> Factory Data Reset
