Important Notes

You can install BIOS v0.17 from any previous BIOS version.

After installing, if you wish, you'll need to disable the startup 'BEEP' sound again (Instructions to Disable: 'Chipset' > 'South Cluster Configuration' > 'BEEP')

Thanks for the new BIOS-Update! I don't need to go the way of the old Installation Instructions for the 0.15-Version? I can do everything from within windows?

Okay, i did just update my J50C-4 and it stills works.
But you nearly did give me a heart attack. i started update.bat and i needed to choose from three different options. it was clear to choose "e" to update the bios. i hit "e" and the update started. then i discovered a warning, that the programm did not find the correct bios (or something like that). please integrate this warning and the correct letter into the instructions at the first post. this could prevent other shock moments. :)
the fan speed problem is solved, thanks!

That's strange. I've updated three units and it just went ahead and updated. No options!

I had the same issue.. E to continue .. A to escape .. Its stated that the BIOS did not match .. SO .. you are not alone in finding that .. It would be the first time I had updated the BIOS on this computer ..

Sorry, but the download link doesn't seem to work (Firefox, various instances, various computers). What am I missing?

Try another browser too!!

I've just tested that the download link is presently functioning correctly for you from a PC with 3 different browsers, a smartphone & a tablet. It's working absolutely fine :).

Are you on your own private network or a shared/public network that could possibly have restrictions you're not aware of?

Are you using a VPN? (If yes, try turning it off.)

Otherwise, check your router config and/or security suite/firewall settings if applicable. (Invariably it's something fairly basic that tends to get missed in such cases.)

Yes, it's not the browser. It's the fact that the file sits on a server behind an arbitrary port that makes it difficult to retrieve from behind restrictive firewalls. And the fact that there's no server certificate either means you have to switch off browser security as well.

I was able to get the file via an unsecured (mobile) network and an unsecured browser (on Windows, that means Edge; my Firefox installation is secured in multiple ways). It's not as if I found having to do it that way a good choice on Minix's part - but that's not the point.

My mistake was not to check the URL before posting here - it contains all necessary warning signs, including "http" instead of "https" as well as the port that caused the majority of the problems for people who work from behind a firewall. I'm sorry for trespassing on everyone's time.
