NEO N42C-4 WiFi module upgrade

Hi all,
I have upgraded my home router to WiFi 6 standard.
Will my NEO N42C-4 support client WiFi module like Intel wi-fi 6 ax200?
Does anyone have experience with this upgrade?

Hi dear community,

I have installed intel AX200 wifi module into my NEO N42C-4.
It works well, the speed increased to 1200 mbit/sec.
But I have the following issue. When I restart MINIX the wifi module does not work. Module does not present in the Device Manager.
If I set power off and then turn on - wifi works well.
If I move my MINIX to sleep mode and than back - wifi works well.
Do you have any idea to decide this issue?

It seems to me there are not lots of users use this forum. No discussion to decide the issues. It's very pity.

It would seem you are the only one brave enough to replace the WiFi card so a pioneer of sorts, other members will benefit from your bravery for sure so keep pioneering on.

Regarding the driver, do you have the Intel driver and support assistant installed?

Hi Marty,

Thanks for your support, but I didn't have another choice, because I upgraded my home network to AX WiFi 6 standard (tp-link Deco X20 mesh system).
I installed WiFi driver from MINIX at first. Then I changed their to latest version from Intel site. But the result is the similar.
Maybe we can receive more feedback when more our colleagues will use Intel AX200 wifi module.
By the way, I sent the request to MINIX support team, but I don't have the answer yet.

Hello, @max506.

First off, thank you so very much for your posts regarding installing the Intell AX200 wifi module into your NEO N42C-4 computer.

I am new to the mini computer genre...and particularly the Minix NEON42C-4 model with AC3168 Wi Fi 5 internal wireless adapter (which I own).
Any help you would give me in the following issues would be greatly and gratefully appreciated.

1. First off, regarding your above comment (i.e., "But I have the following issue. When I restart MINIX the wifi module does not work. Module does not present in the Device Manager.
If I set power off and then turn on - wifi works well.
If I move my MINIX to sleep mode and than back - wifi works well. "),

I 'm not certain what you mean by "When I restart MINIX...". Are you referring to choosing the "Restart"option when the computer is running (i.e., as as opposed to a "Shutdown" option? And then later physically turning on the computer and booting up the computer?) If so, I can certainly live with a cold "Shutdown" option if that allows the Intel AX 6 wireless adapter to be recognized and used by the Minix NEO N42C-4 computer.

WHAT FOLLOWS ARE, ADMITTEDLU, NEWBIE QUESTIONS. I am a newbie to WiFi 6, the NEO N42C-4 and to this website forum. This is my fIrst post on this site. I hope that I did not break any forum rules and/or violate any protocols.

2. In order to achieve Wi Fi 6 spec speeds, must ALL your computers (on the same network) both have A) a Wi Fi 6 wireless adapter (and/or be hardwired directly from the computer (that has a 10/100/1000 ethernet connection connected directly to the router, and B) also be a WiFi 6 capable computer?

I am running an ARRIS S33 modem (2.5 gbps specs) with a Wi Fi 6 NETGEAR AX 6 router (i.e., RAX45 router).

My NEO N42C-4 computer is in the kitchen and approximately 40 feet away from the router (in the living room). By itself, the NEO is getting 0.53 mbps. If brought into the living room (5 feet away from the router), wirelessly, I seem to recall that I got approx 83 mbps and, if instead hardwired directly into the router, I seem to recall that I got approximately either 283 mbps or 343mbps. All the forgoing are miserably slow on my 1gb (1,000 mbps) ISP (Comcast) delivered speed.

3. I I have two computers hooked up in my network (one being the NEO with its current AC3168 Wi Fi 5 wireless adapter and the other computer being3 a desktop computer with an 10+ year old Gigabyte motherboard...and with an external Asus N53 (i.e., a 802.11n) Wireless adapter. Even hard wired to the router with either, I cannot begin to approach 1000mbps speed.

I am retiring the Gigabyte computer and buying a new Dell Wi Fi 6 computer. However, I would still like to run the NEO either with its existing AC3168 Wi Fi 5 wireless router or with the Intel AX6 wireless adapter you installed in your Minix. I prefer the Intel AX6 you mentioned. However, IF I CONTINUE TO RUN THE MINIX NEO N42C-4 WIRELESS ADAPTER (with the new Dell Wi Fi 6 computer), will the NEO Wi Fi 5 cripple the new Dell Wi Fi 6 computer so that the Dell will not be able to achieve optimum Wi Fi 6 speeds?

4. Finally, I assume that I can buy the Intex AX 6 wireless adapter you purchased can be purchased from Amazon. Or do you recommend a different source and/or a different AX6 model? Will the swap out for the old AC3188 wireless adapter be an easy plug and play swap out?

Again, thanks for all the help that you might be willing to offer in these regards. It will be greatly and gratefully appreciated

msturgfish.

P.S. If necessary, I am prepared to buy and install either the Netgear Nighthawk mk63 Wi Fi 6 mesh system (one mk60 router and two satellites) ,or, if absolutely necessary, an Orbi Wi Fi 6 RBK753S mesh system (one router and two satellites). Wireless if reasonabley good speed; hardwired if absolutely necessary.

Hello ArticWolf.

Thank you for your post in this forum (apparently forwarding my initial forum reply intended for @max506. to him.

Subsequent to reading your post (#10 in the thread in which I had posted my initial post?), I received the below quoted email from some unnamed person on "The Minix Forum" advising me:

"Please do not reply to this message. You must visit the forum to reply.

This message was sent to you because you opted to watch the thread NEO N42C-4 WiFi module upgrade at MINIX Forum with email notification of new replies. You will not receive any further emails about this thread until you have read the new messages.
If you no longer wish to receive these emails, you may disable emails from this thread or disable all emails.".
(emphasis supplied by msturgfish)

First of all,the above "notification of new replies"email was received by me after I had already read the email from you (Artic Wolf) while I was on the forum. How do I let the Minix Forum staff know that I had read your latest reply before I received their email notification of same?

(I certainly do not wish to be blocked from reading any other future forum replies (i.e., such as from @max506!) until the Minix Staff know that I have read all current new replies (i.e., yours). If there are any additional new emails posted on the forum after your# 10 "reply", I do not see them posted on the forum site.)

Secondly, this option *to receive email notification(s) of new replies) seems to be causing more trouble than it is worth. How do I remove that option? And, in lieu thereof, I will just robitically periodically reenter the forum site and physically check for any new emails.

Thanks for your assistance in helping this 78-YO newbie attempt to understand the process. Whew!

mstugfish.

P.S. I'm now off to read the forum rules that you were kind enough to send to me.
