NEO U1 and QNAP

Hello,

First of all thanks for this wonderful informative forum. Spent last couple days reading a lot and manage to revive a NEO U1 using Firmware upgrade via USB.
I have a QNAP TS-251 which i used to store all my films / photos / songs etc.
I have this connected to my TV by a DHMI cable to I can watch films etc.
My plan is to use the U1 in spare room and access my QNAP via network (wired) to watch films etc.
My question is what is the best possible set up, do I keep it as android and use an App to do so!? If yes, what do you recommend ( I want o keep the folder structure)
Or, put Libreelec or Coreelec on a SD card and use kodi to achive it? If i use kodi, do you recommend using Upnp (DLNA) or another protocol!? if so which one is better performance wise?

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi,

I prefer Kodi. Under the file section just add a new network source(SMB). In server name put your Qnap IP address 192.168.xx.xxx or name. Folder is probably "Multimedia". Input valid credentials and you can browse and add sources to Kodi from your Qnap.

Use NFS, it's faster and more reliable.

I can't get the box to see server using NFS.
I have enabled NFS on the server and shared the folder containing media.
On CE tried adding NFS to Video list by entering IP address of the server, but when i click ok, it tells me that it can't find the server.
Is there any other setting somewhere else that needs to be changed on Kodi?

Thanks for your help

Open NFS for all users in your localhost ( users = *)
I had to enable the same thing with my Synology.
When enabled go to Kodi, add a video source with browse option on the right, select NFS source then your video folder.

After few tries i managed to get it to work. But when i play a movie after 30 minutes it stops and crashes.
The MicroSD card i have used to load Coreelec is only 2GB, does this matter!?
I have also been looking into Plex, but I understand you have to pay to activate plex to work on the client side? is this correct!?
Thanks again for your help

Depending on the size of the movie files you're streaming 2 GB isn't a lot of overhead for buffering. Having said that, over a decent LAN it should be fine.

Like @Skynet I use multiple Synology NAS to stream local media over ethernet to Kodi in Android, (I also prefer NFS).

I don't experience any buffering, crashing or freezing with a U9-H. The U1 should easily be able to handle decoding any files it's intended for.

When mapping all users to admin with NFS if you have the option available with a Qnap, you may also need to specify the use of non-priveleged ports as well.

You could also consider the use of an advanced settings.xml file to tweak Kodi's buffer & read rates if you continue to experience issues.

Keep us updated of your progress :).

Hi,
Thanks again for all your help and guidance
I swapped the MicroSD card with a 32gb Sandisk extreme pro and not changed anything else and it seems to be running smoothly (fingers crossed). I guess the read / write of the MicroSD card was more of an issue than capacity.
Thanks again for your help
