NEO U1 VPN Problem

I recently bought a new U1 box as my existing box packed up. Turned out it was a faulty power adaptor.

Anyway, on the new box (Firmware version LMY47V.20170629) when I connect to a VPN it says it’s connected. However, the VPN icon on the Home page is grey and checking online confirms it isn’t connected to my VPN.

On my old box (Firmware LMY47V.201702007) it worked lighting up the VPN icon green. I decided to upgrade my old box to the new Firmware and now I have the VPN issue on both boxes.

Looks like this is a firmware issue, any suggestions on how to fix it?

Is your VPN connection manually configured or are you connecting via a VPN app?

I'm using VPN apps either ibVPN or PureVPN. Both state that they are connected when I use them, but they aren't. Never had a problem with the older firmware version.

@pusb87 & @Villa.

They have U1's & should be able to confirm.

On the U9-H for example, the VPN icon on the metro launcher doesn't light green when a VPN connection is made, it remains greyed out but the VPN connection is still working/active. (The VPN icon not changing colour comes up often but normally the connection is still actually working). This may also be the case for later versions of the U1's firmware as well, (you may need to revert to the older firmware depending on your specific needs). However, hopefully villa &/or pusb87 can correct me or confirm one way or the other, so wait to see what they advise :).

Otherwise, once you've connected via your VPN app, how are you checking to see if your public/WAN side IP has changed or not?

Thanks @ArticWolf, I just tried it again and the ibVPN ones are working, checked using whatismyipaddress.com VPN icon is still greyed out, guess that's just how it is on the newer firmware. So looks like it's solved, thanks for your help.

correct, the VPN icon does not light up green when using a VPN app on U1 or U9H......in my view thats both confusing and misleading

Minix have been asked to see if they can find a fix :)
