i doubt it, under what circumstances do you experience clicking noises ?

your "brightness" issues are probably just a requirement to turn off all HDR/SDR/DV options

Hi, thanks for the reply

All hdr to sdr, sdr to hdr and dolby vision settings are off, iv had the same problems with them on, i dont think the brightness problem is because of these setting because i can setup the brightness and check through some films with a good picture, then later on the same films at the same points have a very bright washed out picture, its not like i have setup the picture with these setting turned on to then turn these settings off, if that was the case then yes id agree this could be the problem.

the clicking happens when watching something even when there is no hard drive attched to the box, the same type of problem another member has except he had a buzzing noise coming from his, mines sounds a bit like someone clicking their fingers from inside the box, if there is no moving parts inside the box then what would cause a clicking noise other than something that is faulty?

Thanks

Sounds like an impending hardware failure, my U22 is silent in operation, I suggest you go for a warranty replacement.

Hi, thanks for the reply, have you had any issues with the brightness changing on yours?
Not at all, my unit has been rock solid since powering on. I cannot talk about audio because I use it straight to my TV via HDMI, but picture wise I am blown away and as said, silent operation.

I have been repeatedly switching my Neo A3 air mouse back and forth between my U9-H and U22-XJ, and often find when trying to highlight text in browsers and change settings that the U22-XJ requires much more thumb pressure on the directional pad central button with the android symbol on it, probably more than twice as much sometimes, and I have needed to make repeated heavy presses to get some settings to change, its as if the sensitivity to the button press needs to be increased, but I have been unable to find any setting that will enable me to do this, I presume the only way to change it is in the soft/firmware?

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for contacting us and raising these issues about NEO U22-XJ.

It is a known issue that currently it is not possible to use a VPN service when connected to Ethernet.

If you need to use a VPN service, we suggest connecting via Wi-Fi.

Our engineers are attempting to find a solution to this matter.

For the other issue, the blank screen problem, does this re-occur if you connect the NEO U22-XJ to a different TV / monitor.

It is important to determine whether it is a compatibility issue with your TV / monitor or not.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

John Scutt

Are you sure that the sound does not come from the speakers?
If I am using the audio jack I hear repeating clicks from the speakers.

I have been using the Minix Neo U22 box for a week, with an Minix Neo A2 Lite air mouse.
The box is connected via LAN to a Gigabyte router. I use the jack connection for the sound.
The OS and applications are up to date.

Here are the problems I encountered:
  1. the box freezes and reboots itself 1-2 time a day; at least the reboot is fast; I think it is due to the System UI;
  2. when using NordVPN the LAN connection drops; I have to re-enable manually, by selecting the DHCP option; I will try the Wi-Fi connection, but I would like to use the Gigabyte port to take advantage of the extra speed;
  3. a few times a day the sound does not work; there is no output, neither on the audio jack or via HDMI; I have to manually reboot the box to get the sound working;
  4. I noticed continuous pops in the audio output when using the audio jack; on the previous box, the Minix Neo U1, with the same speakers, cables and power socket this did not happen; the sound was clean; on HDMI the sound has no issue;
  5. when opening some apps (like Facebook, Tidal, ZOOM), the box does not respond for some seconds; also, it restarts from time to time;
  6. the "Enter" button is read by the box as the "q" character; on the previous box, the Minix Neo U1, this did not happen; we need to wait for an update from Google;
  7. I use the Chrome browser; I cannot scroll down with the air mouse, only with the up-down arrows; we need to wait for an update from Google;
  8. Rarely, when I switch through applications, I encounter the "System UI isn't responding".
  9. The box sometimes restarts when using ZOOM; I use ZOOM with a webcam from Logitech, I have video and sound from it; compared to how the app runs from a mobile phone with Android 9, on this box the app lags, allot;
Overall the box is faster than the U1, handles multiple applications with ease, boots faster, but I have doubts about it.
The current Android OS implementation has problems. It looks like things were hurried when they released this box.
I wonder if Minix tests these box with applications on them, or they resume on booting the OS and that is it.

Update on my findings:
I removed the uSD card from the box, did a factory reset and reinstalled all the applications.
The uSD card is a new SanDisk Ultra 64GB A1.
The box runs faster, no lag, for now. I will let you know if the problems indicated above are still present.

Later update:
I used the box all day today and had no problems with it, since I removed the uSD card.
I see that there are other members reporting similar problems. Can any of you confirm that you are using an uSD card also?
Minix should check if using the uSD port causes such problems.

Why is it neccessary to post private emails here?
We have nothing to hide, what I wrote in the email is already listed in the first post of this thread.
Though, I find it rather disrepectful and rude to contact our customer support team and then copy + paste emails here without consent.

Hi John, if possible, can you update how far is the team from resolving the highlighted issues? Also, where can I find the release note of the first firmware update?

Thanks.

Seems to be becoming a trend lately doesn't it :(!?

Not acceptable really as it is private correspondence.

Please observe the forum rules & don't ask for timelines mate.

Thanks :).

Hi all,

Am new here. I got my U22-XJ thursday. Together with the a3 backlit remote.

Some issues:

There is a problem with ARC. Audio Return Channel in combination with my LG oled tv and denon 2500.
When i plug the minix in the sound of the tv stops working. Arc turns itself of at the tv and the sound does not go tru to my reveiver

Also the A3 remote does not turn the minix box on easily from off position. You have to press the power button a few times

Found out when i turn the minix off Arc audio return channel turns off also at the tv. So the sound then from the tv apps only comes tru the tv speakers

The U22 does the exact same thing with my Sony AVR/Panny TV.

As long as the U22 is connected by HDMI it essentially blocks switching to any other input via the AVR, & worse still it also blocks communication between the AVR & TV via ARC. (Even isolating the U22 from mains power makes no difference, it still blocks all other devices communicating over HDMI.)

(With my hardware it even stops the TV speakers working too with native apps on the TV.)

It has been previously reported but this is at least the third instance of this same behaviour I've now seen.

Unfortunately, the only workaround at this time is to pull the HDMI out the back of the U22 each time you want to use it :(. A fix may be a while in coming too so please be patient.

If you have an HDMI splitter knocking around give it a try, they have been known to remedy certain HDMI issues. Let us know if you try one & what result it may have if any. Thanks :).

funny story, the exact same thing was happening to my buddy so he told Costco his TV's arc port was broken and they couldn't find a technician in his area to service it so they refunded his entire $1200 bux only a week before his 2yr warranty was up! later I told him to disconnect his cheap Chinese amlogic box cuz they're notorious for wrecking cec/arc and when he did his TV works again just fine lol.

also we tried 2 different hdmi splitters, well one was an hdmi audio extractor / splitter, but nothing allowed arc or cec to work right so long as the box was plugged anywhere in the chain.

Thanks for the info with the splitter/extractor you tried :).

Lol, at least ya friend got a free TV & the cash back to buy a new one (or something else) on top :).

RE:. Splitters. Some just won't help at all while others can block/confuse EDID & other signals travelling over HDMI which could have some affect. (Obviously, it's finding one that could help. We were recently discussing one brand on the AVForums where a similar thing was happening with zoning on some dude's AVR with 2 displays connected. A cheap splitter solved it but I can't for the life of me find the discussion thread or my posts. (I fear they've been archived :(.)

Ultimately, the end result is still the same whether the need to physically pull an HDMI cable, mess around with another remote or a manual button on the splitter etc. :(.

MINIX have asked for details of previously reported cases & are hopefully looking into it. With current affairs as they are worldwide, fixes for issues like this will obviously take longer than we'd usually expect.

Hang in there. U22 working OK otherwise :)?

Yea he was pretty stoked to get all his money back yet still keep his perfectly fine TV :) I've read the HD Fury AVR Key is the only audio extractor that doesn't throw an EDID error when using Chinese amlogic boxes. it's $200 bux though so basically out of the question. I don't think the U22 will ever fix it, IMHO. all aml boxes, even the u9-h, break cec/arc. only the few mainstream brand-name google-certified ones like the shield, fire stick, atv etc, work properly. it's a pretty big deal-breaker for a lot of people though since minix boxes aren't google certified, so all the DRM apps like Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ etc need to be watched directly from the tv, which then requires arc for decent sound to your AVR, but the minix box negates that unless, like you said, you get up and unplug the hdmi cord or mess around with even more devices.

Yeah, it took me a couple of hours (unplug cables, reset settings etc) to figure out U22 was blocking the audio to the soundbar. Duh.

I really hope there will be a fix for the cec/arc bug!!
Anoying like this.
So please minix team look at it.
Thanks
