Yeah, it took me a couple of hours (unplug cables, reset settings etc) to figure out U22 was blocking the audio to the soundbar. Duh.

Yup, took me a while to cotton on to what was going on too lol.

Yea he was pretty stoked to get all his money back yet still keep his perfectly fine TV :) I've read the HD Fury AVR Key is the only audio extractor that doesn't throw an EDID error when using Chinese amlogic boxes. it's $200 bux though so basically out of the question. I don't think the U22 will ever fix it, IMHO. all aml boxes, even the u9-h, break cec/arc. only the few mainstream brand-name google-certified ones like the shield, fire stick, atv etc, work properly. it's a pretty big deal-breaker for a lot of people though since minix boxes aren't google certified, so all the DRM apps like Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ etc need to be watched directly from the tv, which then requires arc for decent sound to your AVR, but the minix box negates that unless, like you said, you get up and unplug the hdmi cord or mess around with even more devices.

My U9-H's are absolutely fine with CEC from my Sony AVR/Panny TV & vice versa. I have CEC enabled across my devices & the U9-H responds perfectly well to CEC wake/sleep commands coming from the AVR or TV. The TV remote will also control the U9-H quite well too including Kodi/media functions. The AVR remote not so much although many of the buttons obviously have far more specific purposes.

Try setting U9-H option for CEC switch on, but disable the other 3 available options. They didn't work as well & often caused some mixed/crossed comms. Absolutely no effect upon ARC or blocking audio from other HDMI sources either though, thankfully :). The T5's CEC doesn't work as well & I did have to disable that but that also doesn't affect ARC or other audio in any way while still connected.

The U22 is literally the first time I've seen this weird behaviour which is why it was a surprise to me.

Additionally, yeh, the HD Fury is pretty well known, not to mention known for being so pricey too, I wouldn't have forgotten that one :). It was a cheap, simple, 2 into 1, $15-20 splitter that solved the other problem I mentioned. Am still trying to find the discussion on the off chance it could help the U22.

Yea ok I shouldn't have said u9-h in particular breaks cec/arc, rather just cec (but I did have all the cec options on- not just the 1st one so thx for that), but every s912 / s905 cheap box I've tried from Amazon breaks cec/arc if it's hdmi is plugged in anywhere along the chain, quite the pain in the butt!

Dear mods, can you update the first post of this thread as of knows bugs so far. This could save us to read all the posts in this thread and prevent adding redundant issues.

Thanks.

Indeed VPN Service is working when using Wifi. The VPN Service under Ethernet is not working, even not when you switch on the button Faked Wifi Status. Because Ethernet is so much faster, could you please fix the problem that I can use VPN Service also by using the Ethernet, and switching the Wifi off? Thank you very much.

This is a known issue/bug for quite some time that MINIX is well aware of....It's being addressed !

Recieved my U22-XJ today from Amazon and did the available firmware update. Very impressed with the performance and features of the unit. I use it mainly for Kodi and Tidal and it is very quick.

Unfortunately, I seem to have a major problem with much of the video playback. When hardware decoding is enabled, some videos have green vertical lines, and others inverted colors. This so far occurs when playing X264 mkv in Kodi, VLC or MXPlayer, and also various live streams. Does not seem to affect X265 files??, but I've only got a couple of those to try.

When I switch to Software decoding, the lines go away, and some videos work. But a most playback stutters in software mode. Not good.

  1. MINIX box seems to mess up my CEC setup.
When the MINIX is not attached (through HDMI), I can turn on the TV, and the Hometheater set goes on automatically.
And when I turn off the TV, the home theater set turns off.
But when I hook up the MINIX (and it is off), the home theater does not switch on anymore when it switch on the TV.
Only if the MINIX is on does the normal CEC behaviour return. (looks like MINIX then functions as a go through...
This happens weather or not CEC is enabled on the MINIX.

I have exactly the same issue with a different setup: Samsung Q90 TV + Q90 Sound Bar (connected via HDMI3 ARC). Minix U22 is connected to HDMI1 on Soundbar. This was the same with my old U1 and CEC was working absolutely fine. Not with U22 now.

The TV not even able to see an audio device on HDMI3 as long as CEC is on and U22 turned on. When U22 CEC Switch is on (with one key power off) the TV remote can shut down everything but any control or audio connectivity will depend on if U22 is turned on or off. Quite annoying as it was perfect with U1 before.

>>>> Workaround is to turn on Minix ALL the time even if you don't want to use it (like you want to watch TV only) and use it as an online CEC Switch in between your other devices.

Are you using latest stable Kodi 18.6 release?
I don´t have that issue with x264, x265 videos , all files are working very well with my database library.

Use stable kodi versions and not development versions (like for example kodi 19, can be unstable)

I use a NAS to play my movies/tv shows and kodi with basic addons (subtitles, weather...)

Test the files with that issues in other device (a PC for example) to be sure the file is good.

I only use U22-XJ with direct hdmi connection to TV.

PS:
If you are unable to solve the issue start by doing a clean kodi instalattion.

Thanks for the reply

The sources both files and streams all work on my PC and Firestick 4k.

It is plain Kodi 18.6 from Google Play store. I'm skeptical it's a Kodi issue since same problem with hardware decoding in MX player and VLC.

I will do some more testing tonight.

like @notrui i have no issues playing the vast majority of x264 files.
If you would like us to test one of your examples then post a link for us to download

I've got a possible workaround for Dolby Digital Plus Dolby TrueHd passthrough problem: set audio channel number to 2, set on passthrough (at least it's working for me).

If you can't see passthrough optionsn in audio settings, restart U22. I think as long as you can't see the available formats appearing under Device Preferences -> Sound , Kodi won't be able to do proper passthrough as far as I experienced.

Reference:

1.2 Number of channels

Settings level: Basic Description: Select the number of channels supported by the audio connection, or the number of speakers if connected by analogue connections. This setting does not apply to passthrough audio.
Note: S/PDIF supports 2.0 channels only but can still output multichannel audio using a format supported by passthrough.

AFAIK there are not any known issues with those formats, ony HD and AAC multichannel.

Right, so far I've got Dolby Digital Plus source only to test with and I've got it working like above. I'll test it with others as well as soon as I can find some proper test material.

so why have you reported it as an issue with Dolby Digital Plus, AC3, EAC3 ...it isnt !!

Not reported (as I guess it was reported before), just posted a possible workaround. But I have removed *AC3 from the text now. But it's really true for DD+ I can't get passthrough correclty working without this, only 2 channels are forwarded. With this I have all desired channels working fine.
The workaround could be useful to others as well - at least I hope so - that's why I posted.

No they have not been reported as Dolby Digital Plus, AC3, EAC3 work as expected. No workaround is needed.
As I said before it is HD and AAC multichannel that dont work correctly and minix are aware and working on a fix (hopefully)

And where's the positive, helpful manner? Aren't we supposed to be here to help each other? Have you read what I've wrote or you just was only looking for something to pick a quarrel?

As I wrote I have problem with DD+ sound or passthrough in general. The passthrough case with 'some formats' were reported already. When I'm playing a content with DD+ I can't hear all the channels as it's expected to work. As far as I understand "Number of channels" setting doesn't matter as it's ignored during passthrough. Yet if I set it to 7.1 as per https://kodi.wiki/view/Audio_quickstart_guide (7.1 for "AVR HDMI (HD Audio)" suggested)) or as I always did for U1 DD+ doesn't work as expected on the U22. But if I set it to 2.0 the further channels start to work. That's a fact and a behavior which is strange and should not occur normally. And I have a U1 to compare with.
So it's a thing to be reported and a workaround needed to resolve it somehow on a temporary base till it will be fixed.
