NEO U22-XJ: 006A FW (20210203) - Bugtracker [OTA Now Available]

Does anyone know if I can return to 004 easily if 006 doesn't work out? I can TWRP backup /data and other stuff. Thanks
Make a full TWRP backup of 004FW before you update to 006AFW and it will literally take a few minutes to restore the backup to 004FW if you are not happy.

Thanks Marty. I ask because in the past on updates to other devices, the boot loader and other things changed that made going back impossible.

I see what you mean, I have never had an issue with any Minix android device when it has come to updating or downgrading firmware, USB Burning Tool has always erased the bootloader without issue when flashing whichever firmware I wanted to flash. The X8-H Plus is a good example, I would flash up to Lollipop then back down to KitKat, never a problem.

With the U22 I can definitely confirm dropping TWRP backups is issue free up to and including 006AFW (y)

Dear all , have updated to 006A and now Kodi or Tivimate not work anymore
This Firmware update have blocked everything in Kodi and Tivimate no mor pictures !

I guess this updated FW006A firmware is to fix the mic voice input mainly.

I have the following issues to report;

1) Boot up home screen still shrink to 1/4 size and shift to the left during boot up (FW005 rooted, FW006 and FW006A).

2) With FW006A the home screen appears to be smeared (red patch) besides the shrinked size issue upon startup.

3) After restart the home screen boots to TV screen size. However, now the resolution defaults to 1080p instead of 2160p.

4) The samba intermittent problem is still there. Sometimes it stops working and u need to off and on the samba switch.

Hope the above helps and look forward to the rooted FW006A 0r FW007 version.

I confirm the same!

For me it doesn't happen very often.
I'm not sure of the sequence of events that leads to it happening.

For me I only get the quarter screen thing if I power up the U22 before switching on my TV and AVR (plus have the right input selected). I assume it is some sort of HDMI handshake issue?

Obviously different TV's have different settings available or even how they may be actually labelled....

....But, do your TVs have an "HDMI Auto" setting?

Mode 1 (or)
Mode 2

Invariably mode 2 is recommended & it's often the default but obviously the options are there for subjective end users requirements. (If I set mode 1 I get the 1/4 reduced screen, for example.)

Try both HDMI auto modes & see if that helps with the reduced 1/4 screen issue. (If it's of no use, obviously disregard :).)

It always happen to me 100% unless I switch on the android TV before powering on the minix box. Maybe it's becos of the smart TV feature or the TV size greater than 55 inch (not sure but there is a possibility). As for the smeared home screen, if I clear the cache before shutdown, it will not be smeared when I boot up again the next day. The hdmi port that I place is on HDMI3 and I guess it is irrelevant if I place the box on HDMI1 or HDMI3, the home screen still shrink during boot up. The TV is smart enough to detect the device and even name the switch when I place a nintendo switch at HDMI2.

Hi! I am new on Minix Neo U22-XJ! I have problems with my box!
1. I cant delete any files - folders from external HDD with File Manager on KODI
Ιt is a big problem for me that I have a large collection and I make replacements constantly!
2. With this firmware version i cant use any FTP program to send files over a network from my computer to the box's external HDD!
I think it is definitely needed rooted version to do it!

1. You will probably need to allow renaming and deletion of files in Kodi settings
2. What FTP client are you using on the U22 ? You could try the FTP client in CX File explorer, which you will have to install. Im unsure as to whether it will allow access to the HDD but it certainly allows access to Minix storage. Minix firmware 006 ( not 006A) has a root switch if you think that may help.

Please add the following to the Bugtracker report:

1. Gmail....If you leave something in the draft folder, it will not allow you to edit or open the draft for completion. The "pen" on the right side of the page will not react when clicked. I raised this in FW004 release, I believe and it was fixed in the next update. Well, it is back again.

2. On the inbox page where it shows ☆ in the top right hand corner..to save starred emails, clicking on it, has no effect.

I am happy to be corrected, if someone has an answer?

You are correct. It doesn't work for me neither.

You can Copy & Pas... NO! That also won't work...

It could be that Minix U22-XJ is coming closer to becoming just an "entertainment device" after all.

Jokes aside, the chance to go around the Gmail App issue is to edit the draft in gmail inside a web browser. The incompatibility of some apps with the devices is something we probably always have to live with. It is an annoyance, of course, and I personally consider of high value that these subjects get pointed out as they will help to trace real questions that might hopefully trigger solutions.

Especially because I do believe pure Android devices have a way to go competing with other OS for productivity tasks.

Unfortunately I have no further solution for these Gmail issues for the moment. Maybe someone else will.

Solution to item 1:
I had a similar problem with Kodi on the U22 that I had not experienced on the U1. After further investigation on Kodi forums, it appears this has been an issue since Android 6 - obviously not a problem on the U1 due to Android 5. It is a permissions issue where essentially the "file manager" within Kodi does not have write/delete access to attached USB storage.

I moved all my local media from the root of the USB drive to USB drive folder /Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/ and set up the libraries accordingly. I am now able to use the file delete function when removing files from the Kodi library.

You cant do that if you have movie files in two or three HDDs!
There is a problem in this box, something that in other boxes I have does not exist! They have to fix it and I'm sure they will find it!

I only have my library files in one HDD so can't comment on multiple. Perhaps see if the folder /Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/ exists on the HDDs. If so, then it should work as I assume Kodi has delete rights to that folder/subfolder. As I mentioned, it is an Android 6 and later limitation - not related to Minix. I found this out via Kodi forums. Assume the other boxes had earlier versions of Android, such as the Minix U1 (android 5).

Thanks. Personally, I use the box purely for entertainment to watch films/apps or smartube.

I am amazed and admire the number of people who use it as a computer and other technical stuff. Nothing wrong with that and good luck to those with such an array of technical know how ?, some of it is just beyond my understanding and capabilities?, I just prefer to use a computer for such matters.

I am not sure if the minix box was designed other than a media/ entertainment hub. Maybe we expect too much from this device.

But occasionally, I have to report an issue with an app to the developer when using the box. And so their reporting system offers the email solution, which in turn opens up my Gmail.

But, my solution is to start the Gmail on the box. If it is not finished or goes wrong, it enters draft and then I finish it on my phone.
Hope that all makes sense.
