NEO U22-XJ: SAMBA Instructions

May not be relevant, but if you have a VPN running many of them disable LAN connections by default.
There is a good ftp server in CX File explorer ( from playstore) you may want to have a look at
Yes I do have a VPN running so will try disabling that as part of troubleshooting to see if it is causing failure of Samba server. Tks.

There is usually an option in the settings to allow LAN connections whilst keeping the VPN running.
It wouldnt be a failure of the SAMBA server as such if your VPN simply wasnt allowing connection over the LAN

Nooby here, on the Minix thing. I run Win7 x64 and use Connectify to give me internet access to a public wifi access point. (To clear that up.) I do not know what a SAMBA is, but does that allow me to connect to the XJ unit? Have a Win8.1 laptop and could use the Mini box (with an external hard drive) to store shared pictures and videos on. That would be of so helpful!

As reported earlier in this thread, I am still having a problem where by Samba connection fails after working for a while (usually days). Following some of the suggestions here, I finally spent some time trying to isolate the problem further.

With an Ethernet connection and static IP, I disabled my VPN app and restarted. Confirmed Samba working. Then after a time period, it failed. I restored Samba by disabling/enabling in the Samba server in Minix settings.

So, then I switched my connection to WiFi and got Samba operational. I also set up FTP so I could use it to troubleshoot. Then every few hours, I tested the following to verify network access the U22:
- Samba
- FTP
- HTTP (using Kodi Chorus)
- Ping via CMD

Sometime a day later (sorry, didn't record times), the Samba stopped working while the FTP, HTTP and Ping still worked OK. Again, disabling/enabling the Samba switch restored it.

Thus, my assumption is there is an issue with the Samba server on the U22 (or at least my setup). For any others who use the Samba server on the U22, could you advise if - you are experiencing a similiar problem, or NOT.

Any suggestions on how I could diagnose further, such as some debug mode or error logging on the U22?

Appreciate any help - thanks.

UPDATE: After above testing, reestablished connection via Ethernet and verified all working. Tested the next morning with the following result:
- Samba - not working
- FTP - not working
- HTTP (using Kodi Chorus) - working
- Ping via CMD - working

Disabled/enabled Samba switch and Samba and FTP connections restored OK. Odd that when Samba failed to connect, FTP was OK on WiFi but failed on Ethernet?

UPDATE2: In addition to having the U22 as the Samba server and my PC as a client, I set up my android phone, using X-plore, as a second SMB client. Once detecting, from the PC, that the Samba and FTP connections to the U22 no longer worked (but the HTTP and Ping did), I also verified that the SMB connection from my phone failed as well. This eliminates my client device as the source of the problem.

Then, while the Samba was still not functional, I used X-plore on the U22 to make an SMB connection to my PC - this worked correctly.

My next step is to use an separate Samba server app on the U22 in place of the integrated one. Will update further when I have some further results.

I am also having the problem where the Samba server stops responding after a day or so and you have to shut off the samba and turn it on again. I'm on firmware version 5 using ethernet with a static IP

As multiple people are having the same problem, I have to assume this is a bug in FW005 (was in FW004 as well, don't remember about FW003). The only troubleshooting step I did NOT try was a separate Samba server app. I elected to stop using Samba and am using FTP instead - FTP Server on U22 and Filezilla client on PC.

If you have the time to try a different Samba server, please post the results.
