New joiner help request: is Beta Firmware version 7.1.1 still available and if so, where do I find it

Hi, I purchased my used Neo U9-H some months ago; Covid19 has given me some time to try to understand it. I am impressed with the device, however I notice the message 'this app may not be optimised for your device' appears frequently when MINIX the apps. I thought that I should try to install a more recent version of Android and have now discovered that the only practical option is Beta firmware Nougat, 7.1.2, available from this community. I see there has been some mention of a user having difficulties with Beta 7.1.2 and I also read the rather frightening (but not unreasonable, it being Beta) warning that the community developers have given in connection with 7.1.2. I have also watched a well presented YouTube article on installing 7.1.1 - which is clearly aimed at somebody with my limited technical knowledge. I would like therefore to install 7.1.1 but I am not able to find it on this forum. Any advice?

unless you realy know why you would want android 7 I would strongly advise to say with your u9 and use FW008.
99% of applications will work just fine

I also advice you stay with android 6.

If you want you can give ir a try with Stable CE ROM: (official firmware, not beta) (if you really need)

i clearly hear the sound of good advice being given here, so I am going to cancel the idea of installing Nougat- until I find an app. tat requires it. This probably unlikely, given my intended use of the Neo: media management. So now I am off to understand why Kodi - which appears to be one of the killer apps of media management - is demonstrating itself to be surprisingly inept at finding more than about 0.1% of the media files on one of my USB drives. in contrast, MusicBee, in my Linux world, has no trouble in finding 100% of those files on that drive. Couldn't possibly be user-error, could it .....?

what do you mean by finding...how are you trying to "find" them ?
Kodi is certainly amongst the very best of media players and very few formats wont play .

in my current level of ignorance I am just 'pointing' kodi at the USB drive and waiting to see what media files I can find. If I 'drill' down into the directory tructure to my favourite 'collection' I am in a directory which contains about 1000 music files; Kodi lists just one of them....

Apologies for poor typing: I am using an external BT keyboard (which works very well on my Windows computers) but is sooo slow here on the Neo that it frequently drops ey presses altogether. But it is still better than the Adroid soft keyboard, which operates at a rate of about 1 ey stroke every 2.5 seconds.

Please read this:

https://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sources

It is the same process for music or other any type (tv shows, movies)

Excellent - just what I need at my level of understanding of Android in general and Kodi specifically. Thank you. Before going to your recommended article I updated Kodi from 18.6 (apparently) to....18.6, via the Kodi Android Installer add-on (recommended elsewhere on this forum). The (non)-update made the worlsdof difference: Kodi now finds all the files, but I still need to apply the settings in the 'Adding Video sources' article you have pointed me to.
