but for example :
-x8h plus is capable of decoding x265 8bit video files but not x265 10bit
-newer u9h for example runs fine x265 10 bit files
Well, u9h runs x265 10-bit files well
But does u9h also runs x264 10-bit files well ?!
(Given that the x264 codec is older)

Pure Android is designed for touch use. But Android TV is designed to use remote control.
For example, when navigating through pure Android menus, some menus do not have any clues as to where you are located.
That is, the option you are in does not change color or bold. So you don't know which part of the menu you are in !
But on Android TV these have been fixed and ready to use the remote control.
So on pure Android, though a standard remote control might be enough for your regular tasks.
But to make full use of pure Android, you'll definitely need an air mouse.

Hard disks go to standby when not in use.
You can also use the hard drive software to determine the time between hard drive idling and standby mode.
I have a U1 device. When I turn it off, all the hard drives that are connected to it go into standby mode.

Thank you Reza-D, I would love to purchase the U22 though I'm rather reluctant as I'm not familiar with the difficulties of navigating on Pure Android. If as you say you "don't know which part of the menu you are in" that does not sound very user friendly. Though the U22 seems much better, with a more powerful (?) SOC, larger storage and faster ram.
I tried to watch a few U9H videos as it is pure Android hoping they'd show the standard remote it comes with but all were made with the A2/3 remotes. Interestingly the U9H was shipped with a standard remote, so I had assumed it would be sufficient to navigate through basic apps like Kodi, Pluto, ect.

Yes I had thought the Hard drive would have gone to standby when not in use, but that is not the case. I connected it to a Mi Box and after putting it into 'standby' it just kept spinning. I even connected it to the Mi Box will the Mi Box was 'off' to see what would happen. It immediately started up and kept spinning, so it seems if it's getting power (through the USB) it will spin.
I'm wondering if the U22 actually shuts off will that cut power to the USB port allowing the drive to shut down. Then again could it be the drive ?

Thanks...

I think this problem is not related to Android box manufacturers, but to the processor. Older processors are more compatible with H.265 codec, but less compatible with H.264 codec, especially if the quality and number of frames are high. But new processors do not have this problem and are optimized for high-resolution files for both codecs. As a result, in my opinion, there will be no such problem in U22 (I hope :))

Interesting, thanks Reza-D. I am very curious to see how the U22 handles .ISO files.

I would hate to have to convert them to another format as ISO appears to be the only file format that preserves the Menu feature in TV Series DVDs. Single movies of course or another thing and I save them to MP4.

What is known so far about the Amlogic S922XJ ? And how does it compare to the T5's S905X2 ?

In my opinion there are no difficulties!

So long as you use an airmouse, mouse, keyboard, mobile app or whatever is you personal choice.

Just a basic remote with D-Pad won't cut the mustard!

The basic remote is very good for navigating Kodi and other apps that may have leanback intent (Android TV) on pure Android.

@HrdWired short answer about differences between Amlogic S922XJ and Amlogic S905X2 is that Amlogic S922XJ can handle very high video bitrate in x265 Hevc codec.Very high video bitrate is present in 4K x265 Hevc Tv shows and movies and in the future will be much higher.

A new J50C-4 unboxing :

https://www.cnx-software.com/2019/10/03/minix-neo-j50c-4-64gb-mini-pc-review-unboxing-teardown/

The mini PC now comes with SanDisk SDINBDA4-64G eMMC 5.1 flash / iNAND flash which according to the product brief, may deliver up to 260MB/s sequential write performance and faster random read performance using e.MMC Command Queue mechanism (CMDQ), up to 135% faster than the previous generation, and faster random write performance up to 275% improvement over the prior generation.

So basically, it’s the same mini PC as last year, except with a larger and likely faster eMMC flash, which should deliver better performance, and potentially negate the need for an extra M.2 SSD depending on your requirements.

This depends on how you use Android Box.

I filmed my Minix U1. In this video, you can see that when the device turns off, the hard drives also shut down completely. Without disconnecting the device from the power outlet: "Video"

Supports newer audio and video technologies like Dolby Vision and HDR Plus, more processing power for movies with high bitrate, and running games with high graphics.

I believe my usage will consist of mostly 'leanback', so I should be good with a basic remote for now.
However as I'm new to all this, I may very well want to venture into non ATV usage. So, it would probably be best to go with the U22.
That said, after watching multiple A2/A3 videos I noticed the remotes also had standard controls such FF, REW, Left, Right, ect (even though the videos didn't actually show the usage of that feature)
So presumably one can use these advanced remotes as standard remotes similar to the supplied basic. Is this correct ? One thing though I didn't see a STOP button, how do you work around this ?

Thank you for the video, as I had thought the problem was with the Mi Box as opposed to the HD or Android itself. Your video confirmed that for me.

Sounds great Reza, I'm definitely thinking of going with the U22.

Just curious, of those reading this thread which are you considering... the T5, U22, or keeping with your current unit ?

Yes, the A2 / A3 is a complete remote control that does everything.
Of course I think it's better to wait now, because a new model of MINIX airmouse will probably be coming soon.

There is an extension in the KODI called "Keymap Editor" that you can use to define a task for each key.
After you buy it, I can teach you ;)

I will definitely buy U22 :)
