New U22-XJ user questions

I just setup my new Neo U22-XJ and have some questions I am hoping you all very smart people can help with

1) Location will not stay on. This is important since some apps will not work unless location services are on

2) I hid the bottom toolbar to see what it looked like without it. But how can I get the toolbar back if I want it later?

3) How do I tell if HDR or HDR 10 is on?

4) How do I tell if the box has the latest firmware?

2. You can "drag" it up from the bottom of the screen with a mouse/airmouse.

4. Go to apps and minix OTA app, launch it and try to update the box. If no update is found, you have the latest firmware.

See: https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/activating-location-services-on-the-u22.3200/

As above from @ENDRJUPL you need to manually drag the toolbar back up with a mouse or an airmouse or Settings/Device Preferences/System bar/Show bar

3) How do I tell if HDR or HDR 10 is on?
Your TV will display the resolution and whether HDR is active or not, DYOR regarding how to bring this up on your TV.

4) How do I tell if the box has the latest firmware?
As above from @ENDRJUPL or Settings/Device Preferences/About/Build if you are up to date then this should be V006a

As you currently don't have an airmouse, you can also press and hold the Menu button on the IR remote.
Press and hold the Menu button works to hide it too!

The minix OTA shows an update. But it shows that the root switch was removed.
I don't want to remove that. Should I not install the update?

It shows build 20210101_V006_20210107-1518

But the update shows Root switch removed. I have attached a pic of the screenOTA.jpg

It always depends on the user whether he wants to update or not. I would recommend most of the time to have the most recent firmware on the device, or the one that works flawless (has least issues). What is your main issue with the device at the moment?

I don't have any issues at the moment. As you said, I just wanted to be on the latest firmware to assure that there are the least issues.
But I don't want to get rid of the root switch in case I ever need it

You can update to the latest version but if you require the root switch you have to do it manually.

Thanks for the link. I need to look at the instructions before I undertake the process.

Will I loose all my apps and settings?

The reason I am asking is that I don't see any issues related to the fixes in V006A.
Is that is the case, then should I just wait for the next update and decide then?

If you like how things are working now - I would wait for the next update to see if you particularly like or need a feature/fix that it brings. Don't fix what's not broken ;)

I don't understand what they are talking about. But that is the problem with location services
I installed google maps, opened the app and granted location when asked, there after the switch is active for all other apps that you want to allow location services for, I then deleted Google maps. As long as you install something "Google" that requires location services then the switch in settings will become active once you have allowed location access, I hope that is a little more clear.

The TCL display button only shows resolution. It does not show HDR.
I will try contacting TCP support to see if there is another picture menu to see this
It should be shown next to the resolution so I suspect HDR is not active when you are looking, could you check and let us know what your settings are under:
Settings/MINIX Settings/Display/Screen resolution
If you have "HDR policy" set to "Adaptive Hdr" then HDR will only kick in when a HDR video is played.

The "Picture Mode " (or whatever its called on a TCL) of the TV should change to a HDR mode so you can look there.

Ah that may be the key. I don't have anything google on there yet. I will give that a try
Thanks!
