Hello everyone, just ordered one of these in a Black Friday sale and looking forward to receiving it, have been suffering along for a long while with the original G Box Q for far too long, which put me off tinkering with Android. Any recommendations for a first set up, pals etc? TIA

Hi,

Try to install last Kodi version with Google Play. Configure network (Wifi or ethernet) and play !

Hey & welcome :). Enjoy the U9-H :).

Would advise sticking with the stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 for the time being, it works very well indeed. (Minixs' Android N for the U9-H is available as a beta from this forum. Hopefully it's now in the latter stages of refinement but it may still have some bugs you'll probably want to avoid straight out of the box.)

FYI, I had to run the "System Update" app & manually check for a firmware update new, (if your U9 doesn't auto update within a reasonable time frame from first boot, run the app & click "check for updates"). After that, all further FW updates have been automated as normal for me.

Like @Skynet, I also use Nova Launcher (free) on my U9 which I don't ordinarily use on my Samsung/Sony mobile Android devices. Some live wallpapers such as "Vortex Galaxy" or "Day Night Live Wallpapers (All)" adds an additional layer of personalisation too as a couple of examples. They work well & look good without affecting overall performance, (especially with the home screens configured in Nova Launcher with just 8-12 icons per page to actually give a better view of the wallpapers :) ). Plenty of other choices available as per your own preferences for wallpapers.

If you haven't already heard of it, "Texpand" can also come in useful for text shortcuts if you're repeatedly typing the same info, etc. Again, I don't bother with it on my other Android devices but it's a useful app to have without a touchscreen.

ES File Explorer is pre-installed for comprehensive file management, etc. (I prefer File Commander in general but I already had the premium version long before I purchased my U9 anyway. I still use ES on occasion). Whichever you prefer :).

I also find "Tinycore" useful on the U9 at times. I configure it for CPU/RAM usage & CPU temp, then just enable/disable as required.

After that, I haven't had any issues with my other favourite apps I've installed.

Shout if you need a hand with any of the settings :).
