No 4K with KODI on Android (Minix U22-XJ)

Hi All,

I've recently bought a Minix U22-XJ in order to recover my favorite HTPC software : KODI.
My TV is LG C9 (55").

KODI was already installed on the Minix : i've done the several updates of the Minix software and also for KODI in order to upgrade to the last version (18.9 Leia).
I've also done the installation of COREelec on a microSD card.
My problem is the following :
- With KODI running with the COREelec on the Minix : the resolution of the display is 4K and the quality of the videos are awsome with HDR.
- With KODI running with Android on the Minix : no possibility to choose 4K resolution (max is 1920 x 1080p) and no HDR when running the videos.

Can someone help me to understand why i'm not able to have 4K and HDR with KODI running on the Android system ?

Kodi GUI with android devices (that i tested) is limited to 1080p.
I only tested running android OS (no CoreElec tested).
But that limitation (Just kodi GUI) is no problem because the 4K content (and HDR) will play just fine (with android OS).

Note:
GUI (graphical user interface).

Other note:
I tested with Windows OS and kodi GUI IS NOT limited to 1080p.

I agree as per correct response above from @notrui

I also have U22 and LGC955

you just need to get your minix display settings correct when using android and kodi will play 4K HDR OK

AT this moment in time however I prefer Coreelec as this correctly passes through HD audio and AFR also works.

Thanks for your reply but i'm running on MacOS for years and i'm not ready to change my avatar just to be palatable :).

Regarding the settings of the Minix, everything is correct for the 4K but the video is not displayed in HDR (same video running with KODI Coreelec and KODI Android) : any idea ?

Check this U22-XJ HDR setting:
HDR policy - change to adaptive HDR (this is auto, instead of always HDR)

Some procedures you can do:
-Try other videos with HDR
-Check TV settings, TV firmware update (if available)
-U22-XJ firmware update (latest is 005, not rooted version):

again as above from @notrui

You may find that you have to set the correct HDR settings and then reboot for them to "stick". Also strongly suggest you disable DV

Presently they default to incorrect settings and are a bit of a mess and finnicky !

wrt to LG firmware I have had a few updates and currently on the latest version but with both U9 previously and now U22 never had any issues re HDR so doubt that is an issue.

I've checked all the points mentioned above and KODI (android version) is now playing 4K and HDR. Thanks for your advice.
But, even if I choose "HDR adaptive" in the Minix settings, the box sometimes boot without HDR and sometimes with HDR (I mean HDR everywhere). The Minix is up to date but the v005 has been installed through the Minix update apps.
Do you think I need to reinstall v005 following this link (https://theminixforum.com/index.php...w-20200826-bugtracker-ota-now-available.3275/) to solve the problem ?

My new avatar is more palatable ? :)

which its not supposed to do :(

which is why i said that the settings are a bit finnicky and dont always stick , even on reboot.

This is something Minix should be addressing in future firmware updates , you are not alone with this issue :sneaky:

You can try a factory reset and see if it solve your issues. (Warning - all data and settings will be lost)
Personaly i don't have that issue (HDR is working good) but i have others.

I also have issues with COREelec if I'm using the Android apps => when the box is booting after being under Android, the COREelec interface is unusable and I need to reset the box like we have to do during the first install of COREelec.
So I keep using KODI through Android, even with bugs.

Then you have something not quite right as that shouldnt happen :unsure:
