No AC 5ghz wifi network

Hi everyone, hope you are doing well.

The issue with the wifi appeared very long time ago, but switched to ethernet network and forgot it.
Now I took a device to parent's home, and face it again, since only wifi connection is available. Device running latest official version, and connection speed is like wireless b/g times of 2006 - up to 54mbps, the real situation that the speed is no more the 5-8mbps.
I can't see 5ghz network in the available networks list, force to it via add network manually didn't solve the problem.
I know that you will advice to take closer look at router settings, but it's the second router, other vendor, problem is definitely with the u1 device itself.

Should I ditch it for other TV box or maybe someone had similar problems in the past like I have? Thanks in advance.

Make sure the wifi antenna is properly connected and yes, check your router settings, maybe try changing channel and best to set different SSID for the 2.4 and 5GHz .
AFAIK no other reports of significant issues with 5Ghz on the U1

Ah, hey there and thanks for the answer, that's so kind.
Well, changed the channel for 2.4 just to be sure, but it isn't an option anyway, since device can't see 5Ghz.
I spent time on russian 4pda portal, and there are people with the same problem (at least they had such problem time ago), and some of them noticed from the day one, that when you try to attached wifi antena, holder scrolls too - to prevent that you have to hold it manually from inside the box.
That's what I had too, but wifi antenna was attached properly (mainteined it's position, no loose). Sooo, maybe that's the reason, dunno.
Routers are OK, with numerous devices I have at my place and here, never had any issues.
Anyway, starting to think, to switch to xiaomi tv box later.
P. S. Ah yeah, that wonderful support from minix, found email that have been sent on 25th of October 2017. Yes, still no reply.
Hello,
suddenly i have no WiFi 5 GHz option available no more on my minix U1. No updates were installed recently, just turn it on after 36hrs and no network available.
Other devices works without issues with that frequency. Any suggestions without hard reset ? Router rebooting did not solve issue. Thanks in advance.

Differently from the U9-H where you can set it to always connect to the 5 Ghz exclusively, the U1 doesn't have that setting.
In short, here is what I did:

I gave different SSID names and passwords to each of the frequencies so I could easily identify and choose precisely in the U1 WiFi settings which frequency to connect to, bypassing the automatic default procedure.

There is something you should care about:
The 2.4 one reaches a wider range, and so the aerial signal is better on this frequency, especially noticed when the router is far from the Minix box, because the U1 selects the frequency automatically it normally tries the connection to this one preferably. If your U1 is far from the router it can even happen that you can see the 2.4 when the range of the 5Ghz is already lost.

Somehow and beyond my technical knowledge and comprehension the coexistence of the two frequencies ready to connect inside the U1 affects the U1 performance to the point of it becoming totally stalled. I had that before applying the solution above.

When you deny it to connect to the 2.4 Ghz (not providing the password for it to connect - that is why it is important to have each frequency with different SSID and passwords) to the U1 and connect it to the 5Ghz only you will regain the U1 to its best.

(Occasionally it will still try to connect to the 2.4 Ghz on its own and that is why you shouldn't supply the password to allow it to perform that connection, it will then follow to choose automatically the connection that is password allowed. When this happens you should go back to the WiFi settings and set it to forget the 2.4 again, as these connection tryouts are time consuming.)

So far this was the only way I could achieve to get my faithful U1 back in track since the day it had to be connected to a double frequences router.

Please let us know.

pusb87, thanks, yes, I tried to follow the recommendation to lower the 5Ghz channel (to 36) - so far no changes.
CybeRider, obrigado for the answer, had read it several times, noted something for myself. Just wanted to mention again, I can't see no 5Ghz in my neighbourhood, only 2.4Ghz. It would be fine, but link speed is something like 3 or 4 mbps while I have 100mbps network. Distance is 4 meters to router.

Sooo, as to clarify: will reset both devices (xiaomi router R3G 2 and minix u1) and will start from the scratch.

Did you reboot the router after changing the channel?

@scr
I think we can safely say the U1 is perfectly capable of connecting to a 5Ghz with good speed.
For fun I got my U1 out of the cupboard and set up to use 5GHz network.
The screen shots confirm that all is OK. I nominaly have a 200 down 20 up connection, and also have VPN running on my router.

Can only suggest that you recheck all your settings

Greetings everyone, sorry for the delay.
It's now connected and running in 5GHz network, cannot tell even why. I was just checking devices connected to the router and found it. Guess topic can be closed for now, though unsure it won't happen again.
Thank for the all suggestions guys.

The router should work well with default wifi settings.
You must check (for a time , example 20 days) if all your devices are connected to wifi (2.4GHZ and 5GHZ) without any problems.

Your minix should also work well with wifi default settings.

Things you can check:
-router settings and firmware installed
-minix settings and firmware installed
official U1 firmware:
https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/neo-u1-fw013.44/
-U1 apps installed
Use only the apps that you need

Notes:
-Your device is working well connected by cable (example 10 days) ?
-If the router is not working well you should contact your seller (but i think the problem is configuration...)
