No sound in Kodi 18.8

I am using a U22-XJ with the latest firmware, it is connected to a smart TV thru a HDMI cable. The box on it's own works fine. I primarily use Kodi 18.8 for all of my media needs. It was working OK yesterday, I went and opened it up today and I have no sound at all. I have done an uninstall and a reinstall of Kodi, restarted Kodi, changed HDMI cable, checked all audio settings. I have zero sound and I am not sure what to do next.

You haven't made it very clear if you just checked the audio settings in Kodi alone, or the available audio options on your U22 as well?!?!? (Are the actual device audio options still all set correctly?) In the meantime, I'll try to start covering both bases to get you going for now, then you can essentially work the problem yourself and/or from additional input from other members too.....

Most importantly, can your TV still receive audio from the actual Android system sounds, or audio from other apps too, for example? Or, is it just Kodi alone that has suddenly lost all audio & everything else is OK? (Determining if it's just Kodi that has this issue or if it's universal to your U22 will ultimately be your biggest clue.)

Some TV's also have specific modes they need to be set to. (If inadvertently altered that could also result in a loss of the audio or visual signal, or both.) The names vary from one manufacturer or model to another, but be sure to also double check the various settings available on your TV, especially any directly pertaining to HDMI.

Otherwise, have you checked all possible options? (I.e. double check the U22 hasn't been accidentally muted & the actual audio options in the U22's settings. (You certainly wouldn't be the first or last to miss that under such circumstances ;).)

When you reinstall Kodi, use the fresh install alone to continue troubleshooting as well rather than restoring any previous backups you may have made for your Kodi before you do your testing, (just in case that's also applicable to you & you're essentially replacing the same bug/glitch via a previous backup).

Have you also tried installing Kodi's log viewer add-on too? It's very simple to install from the official repo & you can view old or current logs for any issues. You may not understand much of the contents within the logs but look out especially for any errors or warnings that are usually colour coded in red or yellow respectively. The logs will clearly indicate if Kodi has a direct audio problem. (Don't forget to enable Kodi's logging capabilities & it may also be useful for you to use the component specific logging for Kodi's audio too & just deselect much of the rest that will just clutter up the logs. (Any obvious clues in the logs that you can immediately see for yourself?))

Have you also tried connecting the U22 to a different HDMI input on the smart TV or have you continued to use the same input?

The other option of course is to try factory resetting your U22 if you're just not getting anywhere but I really don't think you're quite there yet ;)!!! There's still other things to check before resorting to the extreme, so hold off on that one for now unless you end up completely running out of patience lol ;).

Check that lot out for now & see how you go. If you're still stuck post back as others will no doubt have additional suggestions too based on any additional information you can provide :). (Include as much info as you can even if you think it might not be relevant, sometimes it can just be something ridiculously simple :).)

@ArcticWolf >>> I was just about to respond with very similar advice ( all be it in a just a few lines ! ) , cant see you've missed anything obvious other than maybe double checking HDMI connections at both ends are fully pushed in and the volume control on the remote is at max.

Hi. @sbernstecker

Sometimes i have no sound (navigating in the menus (movies, tv shows, settings...). (I think this issue happens when i open kodi for the first time)
I have sound again if i play for a example a video or mp3.

I have this issue with several builds of KODI and devices (U22-XJ included)

Note:
I have everything well connected and i use advancedsettings.xml, userdata saves, etc (backup with my database library).

My instalattion:
I install kodi and after that the first thing i do, is copy my backup from server to clients.
If i have a previous build (for example kodi 18.7) i install latest stable build (kodi 18.8) over previous.

That is not a problem (having no sound) for me because i always have sound when i play a file.

I am sorry I wasn't clearer on my description, I had already done all that was recommended before I posted here in the forum, the final fix was to do a factory reset on my U22-XJ. It was only using Kodi that the problem was there, why the reset fixed it I have no idea

As far as the upgrading to 18.8, I was going thru the app store when it would error out on the installation. I finally got the update tp take when I installed the Kodi app for Android update, when I used addon, the upgrade went perfectly

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions and help.
