No video playback (maybe because of an update)

Hi

last month my Minix U1 lost its inner video playback. It affects many apps that use it (also Netflix gives error 5.10, that may be related).

It does not affect Kodi or Video playing apps such as MX Player. Sometimes I can play the missing vids through them, but not always.

Thanks

Please define your interpretation of "missing vids"??? (If they're actually "missing" how can anything find them to play them?)

So it's not so much that your U1 has actually lost it's ability to playback your multimedia files if they still work OK with Kodi or MX Player etc., it's perhaps more that it's having issues with some or certain on demand/streaming services, yes/no?

Are you using a VPN?

Have you tried clearing the cache and/or the data for the apps you're experiencing issues with? Have you also tried clearing the system cache?

Have you read through this thread with regards to Netflix? https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/netflix-5-3-1-not-working.785/

Obviously it's the last resort too & first backup any personal files/media/data on the internal storage first as it will be wiped, but have you tried a factory reset to remedy these issues as well? (If you haven't, hold off for now pending additional information to your thread, but it might be something you may have to consider if other alternatives fail to resolve your issues.)

Try to include additional information as well for others to help you troubleshoot. (You haven't provided an awful lot to go on really & the info you have provided is somewhat vague at best ;)!!)

Thanks for the reply

It seems that the default video player/decoder in Android 5.1 has been disabled. No default is set & I need to define other video players.

In some Apps, this does not work, such as Netflix (the error I got was 5.10, not 5.31 & there's no known fix for it).

The question, therefore - Is there's a way to restore the original Video player/decoder in Android 5.1?

I can try the system cache. Can you explain how I do it?

You're welcome :),

Ok, lol, obviously you haven't clicked on the linked Netflix thread above or you'd be aware that 5.3.1 isn't an error code, it's an actual Netflix app version number.

We're here & happy to help but if users actually make some effort to help themselves first things would go significantly faster in a lot of cases. (I.e. Simply Googling "Neo U1 clear cache" brings up a number of sources with directions of how to do it.)

You can clear the cache/data for any given individual app by going into the device settings -> apps -> & highlight/select the app you wish to clear the cache, or data for.

Otherwise, to clear the system cache from the recovery menu.....

Press & hold the U1's power button for 6+ seconds.

From the menu that appears on-screen use the d-pad on your remote & select "wipe cache", (you'll receive a confirmation).

Once completed, choose "reboot" from the same menu & wait for the device to restart.

If this also fails, try factory resetting.

[SOLVED}

Thanks again.

A few days ago I saw a way to reset the apps to their defaults in Android 9, and I wondered if there's a similar way in 5.1, until I found it -

*** In Settings (the detailed one) -> Apps -> in the side menu - set the apps to their defaults (I'm translating so It may be somewhat different). ***

That fixed the video problem & also error 5.10 of Netflix (that until now has not been solved, AFAIK)
