Not connecting

I am no expert on all things minix.
But the basic steps below might help.
1. Which tv are you using?
2. In your tv settings, look for external inputs and check that minix is enabled.
3. Try a different hdmi port on your TV (but not arc) port.
4. Try a different hdmi cable in your current hdmi port on your TV and if that does not work, try steps 3 above.

It’s a Sylivania tv.
the tv settings show HDMI 1,2,3 ports.
ive tried all 3 ports
Tried the original HDMI and bought another one
nothing worked
when I click ‘options’ I see the drop down menu for:
HDMI 1,
PC
but when I click OK it just goes back to the cable tv
do I need an AV input

It should work and Av is used for audio only.
If you Google your TV manufacturer/support, they may be able to help you.
https://curtis-sylvania.com/manuals-downloads. If you go to that site, there is a 3 bar icon on the top right hand side. Click on that and support is in the sub menu.
When you select hdmi settings hdmi 1, try rebooting your minix and see if it picks up the Hdmi when it restarts.
Again, try in tv settings and look for external inputs. Click on that and see if it brings up a menu that shows the minix and then enable it.
Last but not least, you could try a factory reset as detailed by @Villa

The Recovery Button is located on the left hand side of the device behind the antenna.
You will need a bent out paper clip or similar to depress the Recovery Button.
Paper Clip: It was invented in 1899. It hasn’t been improved upon since.

With the device powered Off.
Keep pressed the Recovery Button then press and release the Power Button.
MINIX Splash Screen is displayed.
~10 seconds the screen becomes black for ~2 seconds.
MINIX Splash Screen reappears.
The Recovery Button can be released.
~10 seconds the Recovery Menu appears.
Scroll down to factory reset. Click OK on your remote. And then accept.
Wait until finished and reboot your minix.
Failing that, you may want to contact support@minix for advice.

Just a query. Why is your TV settings showing "PC"?
And I do not understand why you say when selecting HDMI it goes back to cable TV.
If you have cable tv plugged into your TV, try unplugging it and see if it then picks up HDMI. Or have you somehow plugged cable tv into your minix?
And do you have anything apart from remote dongle/ mouse dongle plugged into your USB ports on your minix?

I have been reading through various tv manuals for your TV and fault finding issues.
Before you do ANYTHING to reset your minix, unplug any other hdmi cables from your TV and try the minix on its own with just the cables and remote dongle that came with the item.
It might be that other devices are over riding/ interfering with your hdmi connection to your minix.
If that works, then you will need to contact your tv support people.

This will be my final post on your question. I don't think your minix is faulty.
I have just read the endless stream of complaints against your TV company, which may answer your original question. This company seem to provide many electronic gadgets, but Tvs is not their main product.

Perhaps you could plug your minix into a neighbours TV ( but not a sylvania) and see if the U22 works.

as you havent mentioned which minix device you have i would suggest folloing the advice of @dak7385 and in the 1st case
power off at the mains your TV
remove all other hdmi inputs from your TV
connect the minix via HDMI cable to HDMI 2 of your TV
power on your TV
turn off any CEC options of your TV
ensure the minix is ON
select HDMI 2 input on your TV
if no picture still try simply unplugging the HDMI cable and then replugging at the Minix
