Notification sounds and level

Ok well I am trying to find out how I turn off the "Notifications sounds" on my U1, it's an older box I go to Settings but I do not see any advanced settings.
I go to settings click on it and I see Device (Network display audio apps storage and reset and about) Then there is Preferances and then remote and accessories... but, no advanced setting tab under about my version is 5.1.1

I found some treads that say to go to advanced settings and then notifications and wither pull the slider down or turn it of... .problem is I can not find an advanced settings in my screen just settings where I set network aps exec.....

Any suggestions....I am getting an annoying notification on one of the apps and I don't know which one it is or how to turn it off....

Thanks in advance..

Advanced settings are on the 2nd row of tabs (preferences). You will need to scroll across to the far right.

It's probably ES File Explorer if you still have that installed, you can disable notifications in the app itself.

Thank you for all your information Pusb87 and Marty, I have slid the slider off on Advanced settings... thanks..... I do have ES File Explorer but I never use it at all... Pro's and Cons to delete it? At least, I don't think it is being used for anything!

You can also reach Advance Settings by simply clicking the clock area in Minix Metro launcher.

Regarding ES File Explorer,
The cons about deleting it:
- It serves well as a file explorer when you need to trace down particular files in your drive(s).
- It does a pretty good job finding other devices to connect to in your network. Many explorers dont even allow that.
- It transfers files between devices in the network at a better speed than many other explorers.
- It has one of the easiest interfaces.
- It is no longer available in the Playstore, and finding updates will have to be from a different source.

The pros about deleting it:
- Many users mentioned it can interfere with other processes running causing trouble.
- It tends to increase its size in time (which maybe explains the latter). I normally eliminate its app data when I notice it going above 300 Mb in size.
- You will gain that space back if you don't ever use the app.
- The factory version, very decent, can be found in your U1 "/system/preinstall" folder, and so you can have it back in case you ever regret having deleted it. (Take into consideration you might need a file explorer to reach that folder)

Thank you Cyberidere, I'll have to look in to exactly what I have. My U1 is about 2 years old but works great and I am wondering what a newer device might do for me... I like the Android platform just for the amount of programs that are available. I see alot of folks talking about VPN, but I tried one and it slowed my system by almost 80% So I canceled the trial. Hopefully I'll get some time to revisit the new boxes and what more is avaiable

- Of course it does, it still is an awesome machine! (y);)

Thank you for joining the forum.

I can't really recommend the use or not of a VPN. That depends a lot of the normal use you make of the Minix box, the level of privacy that worries you about, and the laws that rule your country regarding the content you can search.

The Minix Android box system is very well shielded, especially when the box is unrooted as packed from factory, and although it is hard for us to have an idea of how many users actually use a VPN, I can assure you that there must be a good percentage that doesn't, and yet you can't find in the forum many if any, as far as I can remember, posting regarding proved malware infections. Regarding the content, some contries punish the user for downloading (watching is downloading for the effect) copyrighted stuff, while others focus mainly on the upload, while others don't even care about any. While in many countries you can even be arrested for watching porn.

Consider all the above and decide wisely according to your particular situation for the use or not of a VPN, as all of the above might get you in some kind on unwanted situation worse than speed loss.

CybRider, thanks for the explanation, Yea, it just seems like all these sites are really pushing VPN subscriptions but, when asked to comment on how the performance of your device is affected they seems to do a little song and dance... Like I mentioned, I tried a trial and it seems to really hit the performance hard... the only thing that seems interesting is some of the streams that usually are not in the USA.... but I can live with out that ....

I've been really happy with my Minix U1 even with an older build and lack of updates (unless one wants to root, which I do not).... I'll just keep my eye out.. .I've tried to read about the T5 but, I"m not sure about Android TV.... I like Kodi... I have an amazon prime account and enjoy several shows on it and our Roku is fine, some of the shows have commercials which are a bit of a pain.... but, not much different than our OTA.

And I saw you got very good guidance from @MINIX - John so far regarding the new models. That is the way to go, to read carefully what others have to say about it and look for the best possible opinions. I am sure you will make a well informed decision. The way I see it, paid services should be served through the apps provided with the TV equipments. I am so out of these certification fuss. It is quite obvious the certification is far from having to do with the quality of the equipment, but largely about the popularity of the devices it applies to. I am definitely not going to wait for Netflix or HBO or Amazon to tell me which box to have, when I know I get one of the best in every Minix box I might choose.

I couldn't agree with you more!(y)
