I'm certain this subject must have been raised in the past but being unable to find it,would some kind soul give me some assistance.

I've been using the Minix NEO X8-H PLus for some time now,and am constantly being met with the error messaged "problem parsing the package".
I
have tried to solve on my own ,unsung the advice out there ,such as, reset to Factory default, reset security settings, enable dubbing by becoming a developer, clearing play store cache, and even downloading "WhatsApp" (for what reason I have yet to find out.)
Is there any way this problem can be solved on our Minex units?

Have you enabled "Allow installation of apps from unknown sources" ?

This error usually means the OS is not supported, I take it you are still on Kitkat so the only solution would be to upgrade to Lollipop:

If you are already on Lollipop then I'm afraid the solution is to upgrade to a newer box

Hi Marty Really appreciated your attempts at helping me out. But to be totally truthful I haven't a clue what you are telling me? Lollipop/KitKat ???
If I were to say I was born at the start of the 2nd WW you might understand where I'm coming from////however I am techno savvy and besides my media service I do run a high end PC,plus a number of fire devices,as well as using a PS4 !!!!So although slightly lost in time I am still in charge of the present!
I installed among others APKeditor pro, plus filelinked, all of which are great ,but I'm constantly being hit with the error message problem parsing the package!!!
Would you be good enough to explain "Lollipop and KitKat, then at least I might obtain my objective Edit: App reference not allowed!!! Thank you;)

No stress, first of all please answer the question by @Villa this is an important step.

Kitkat and Lollipop are the names of the Android versions, the X8-H Plus was released with Kitkat which is Android 4.4, Minix later released Lollipop for the box which is Android 5 (along the same lines as Windows XP, 7, 8 and now 10). The important part of the Android version is the API level, developers define the API level at the start of an app project so if they choose an API level that is higher than the API level of your Android version then the app will not install and throw out the parse error. The sad fact is that as the version of Android gets higher and the developers choose higher API levels for their projects our boxes will eventually become obsolete.

You can check your Android version in settings, I assume it is on Kitkat. The link in my first reply is for the newer version of Lollipop which you should consider upgrading to if your unit is on Kitkat.

Here is a bit of useless information with a table that lists the API level for each Android version:

You haven't answered my question!
Hi Villa If you read my very first post you would note I DID answer the question you later asked, by stating I had amended security section , also found my way to dubbing and switched that on ,which as I said was the main line advice available on UTUBE,but just to make certain we are on the same page Yes I did tick box "Allow installation of apps from unknown sources".
Sorry for any confusion.

I've had the "problem parsing the package" error on every Android device I ever used. Not always with the same .apk obvisouly. As Marty said, I think it's a compatibility problem. You could also try a different version of the package if available (i.e. if you downloaded armv8, try to get the armv7 package instead).
Or do what Marty said and try to update Android. If you don't know how to do that manually, you should be able to do so from the updater app installed on the box.

Hi Guys thanks to one and all for your help/It would appear I have already tried the most obvious moves, and that there is no app to enable parsing the package problem to be resolved/Pingouin the system is fully updated.(THanks)

Just one thing in passing, after doing a factory reset ,and being left with depending upon Filelink to provide my favourite apps, a lot of the apps I now attempt to download and install ending up getting a parsing error, yet I used to have them on my system as perfectly working apps???

Please just tell me what version of Android you have. Apps get updated and developers take advantage of the latest API offerings when they make these updates so what used to install and work before may not be the case once updated. Please just look in the settings and tell me if it is 4.4 or 5.

Caskin said his X8H Plus is fully updated, so he should be on Lollipop? I have Lollipop but it's the RC2 release, not sure if you guys released it officially.
Good point from Marty though: it could be that back then the apps were working on KitKat/Lollipop, and the apps have now been updated (most probable) and later versions had Lollipop support dropped (maybe).

I beg to differ, he admitted he had no idea what Kitkat or Lollipop were so I'll accept that his system is up to date with Kitkat but there in lies the problem, most developers do not use anything below API 21 anymore so until he confirms he is actually on Lollipop I will continue to suspect Kitkat is the reason behind the parse error.

Makes sense, as I mentioned in my previous post, I'm not sure Lollipop was officially released on the X8H Plus (latest was RC2), and if not and Caskin updated from the update app, he would indeed still be on KitKat.

Correct, the only way to upgrade to Lollipop was via flashing, there was no OTA.

Whats that I hear you all shouting, you want evidence, well ok then ;)

So I have two X8-H Plus boxes, for the benefit of this thread I re-installed Kitkat on one box (Android 4.4.2) and left the other one on Lollipop (Android 5.1.1). I then tried to install Kodi on both boxes with very different results (the same file on the same SD Card in case you are wondering). Kitkat was first in case you might think that Lollipop corrupted the file.

See attached:
-Top left the Android settings showing 4.4.2, top right "There was a problem parsing the package".
-Botton left the Android settings showing 5.1.1, bottom right it allows the install.

So, lets go back to my very first post:

Thanks Marty, this "There was a problem parsing the package" error has bothered me for years without me really understanding what caused it. It happens a lot on my Samsung tablet which has KitKat on it, and for which Samsung never released an update.

OK guys it would appear I've been telling(unknowingly)porkies.!!
I checked my updates from the settings which stated my system was fully updated.
However my system is 4.4.2 and not 5
So it would appear I am kitkat and not lollipop??
If this the case do I need to download both links supplied ,and are instructions included in order to update?
Do I have to carry out firmware link?
Thanks for your patience

That's right, you're on KitKat, and as Marty said earlier:
