Hello, i've got to some conclusions:
1) i had already in the pass done some setup around here, always with problems, and i was not understanding how everything seemed to be working today (your tips were already in the right place), i think that Hotspot slider never stayed on "ON" mode - and i've recalled all of this because it was ON today (i've hard rebooted during these days) and when i placed a password to hotspot, it went to OFF, didn't allow me to place ON (even after removing the password), so i had to hard reboot minix, again.
2) I'm not totally sure what notrui and villa were saying on your first tips (wired and wifi can't be on on the same time), for now i assume that Minix doesn't work as an extender of an existing wifi network, but as an hotspot of a wifi or wired net, and consequently, under a new net name.
3) I've tested through speedtest.net, with my laptop at 1 meter of minix. I had +- 9,37 Mb download and upload, with 12 of ping. Is this any good?
Seems very slow.
Thanks for all your tips.
As far as I'm aware you can
Extend a wireless signal that you get from a router directly (keeping the same SSID and password of the internet provided at the router node) using an extender, or you can create a
Hotspot from a WiFi device connected over WiFi to a network or router, and connect other WiFi devices to this one (and you have to set these devices to connect to the name and password set in the hotspot new network).
There are apps so told to create an extender out of an Android device by adding software to the system, will likely require setting proxy definitions, or rooting the device. Apparently you will be left with a new SSID and password for the new network anyway, so I can't see what the point might be to go after one of these. Example: Netshare-No-Root-Tethering, allows 10 minutes connection on free version, requires to be installed in all concerning devices; there should be more to try out from the Playstore. I never tried any.
The Minix box is not a router or an extender. When you mentioned the need to extend connection we probably thought of the way there is to have a connection that is gets, by cable or WiFi, sent to other devices and that is by creating a hotspot. 'Extender' was your word, 'hotspot' is what there is. Semanthics might be another thing arrising. On an extender you also have to obey name and password for the original connection, on the hotspot you have the name and password for the hotspot.
Because your Minix box can only have one data source at a time, it has to connect either to cable or Wifi at a time as well. It is not physically possible to connect it to two different sources at the same time, even if those sources seem to live together inside the same router where you have your box connected to. It gives priority to cable. (
@notrui and
@Villa explained it better)
From your number 3 I get the impression that you have your Minix box getting its connection from a WiFi shared connection out from a laptop, and if it is just 1mt away from the laptop I am getting some trouble to figure out why is it not directly connected to the original source where the laptop is connected to, as speed would certainly benefit from it.
