PROBLEMS WITH HDDs

Hello, everybody! :)
I'm kindly asking for some advice/ideas on this matter

I'm kind of a Torrent addict ... for some time I've been using a 1 TB Samsung HDD to store (and share) my files, with NO problem at all (y) Unfortunately, I needed some extra space, so I bought a 4 TB Western Digital HDD... A disaster!!!

My U22 most of the times recognises the WD HDD, but sometimes it doesn't ... And when I try to copy something from WD to Samsung HDD, it takes (when possible: most of the times it just crashes!) 1 hour to copy a 1 GB file :censored::censored:

Is the 4 TB HDD too much to handle? Or maybe WD HDDs don't "get along" with the U22?
Thanks in advance to anybody who will answer this :giggle:(y)

What's the file system? NTFS?

Try with exFAT.

You have both of these connected to the U22-XJ ?

Are they self-powered (have their own PSU)?
Or are they drawing power from the device?

Yes, they are both connected to the U22 (actually, they are connected to a USB-multiplug which is, in turn, connected to my U22)

NO... Jesus, I feel like a moron!:censored::poop:
I think a lack of power is the issue!

I connected a USB powered 500GB 2.5" HDD, file system NTFS, directly to the U22-XJ. Reading and writing works fine.

I suggested exFAT because I recently found the T5 doesn't appear to like NTFS.

Any suggestions about volts, amperes, etc (for the USB hub)?

What is the USB hub you are using?
Does it have provision for external power?

Some have a DC barrel type socket and others have a Micro USB socket.

I have a USB Hub that came with a PSU rated 5V 3A (just like the MINIX android device PSUs).

Take a look at the specs of the HDDs you are using. The 500GB one I tried says DC5V 1.0A.
So that would mean I could use 3 of these comfortably with the same hub.

I use some USB drives for backup but always reformat to ext3/ext4 file system. NTFS is MUCH slower than nearly any other choice.

Finally! :D I bought a powered hub and looks like everything's fine (for now, at least)... :sneaky:
I'd like to thank everybody who helped... And a special thanks to Villa! ;)

He can be useful once in a while ;):ROFLMAO:.

Glad you're now all sorted & hopefully this thread will serve as a reference for others too :). (If they bother to actually search of course ;).)
